ORIENTATION SESSION ON NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY (FOCUS ON
INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP)
Date: 30 November 2020
th

Number of beneficiaries: 434 students and faculty members

Name and Details of the Resource Person: Prof. Manoj Kumar, Professor & Chief Coordinator,
New Gen IDEC, GLA University, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh
Objective: To help the students to understand National Education Policy (Focus on Innovation
and Entrepreneurship)

Brief write up on the session:

Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) Kristu Jayanti College organized Orientation session on
National Education Policy, focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. Prof. Manoj Kumar,
Professor and Chief Coordinator, NewGen IEDC GLA University, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh played
an instrumental role in establishing one prototype tricycle called NewGen IEDC on November 30,
2020.

Prof. Manoj opined that higher education must form the basis for knowledge creation and
innovation thereby contributing to a growing national economy. He also highlighted the emphasis
on STEM which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. One should
integrate all of these defined technologies and generate some kind of innovation, he said.

Prof. Manoj Kumar steered the topic with the quote “Inspire others rather than wait to be
inspired”. This National Educational Policy 2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century
and it aims to address the many growing developmental imperatives of our country. It is very
relevant because the government has identified four topics such as primary education, higher
education, the third phase is another related focus area, the fourth part they have defined policy
implementation.

The NEP policy is aligned with the aspirational goals of 21st-century education including SDG4
(Sustainable Development Group 4) while building upon India’s traditional and value systems. By
2040 SDG4 had defined that all education policy would be close and collaborate whether it is art
subject, science, technology, innovation, or entrepreneurship, said Prof. Manoj.

The principles that will guide both the education system at large as well as the individual
institution within it are recognizing, identifying, and fostering the unique capabilities of each
student, emphasis on conceptual understanding rather than rote learning and learning for exams,
creativity, and critical thinking to encourage logical decision making and innovation, he said.

Prof. Manoj emphasized on a ‘Light but Tight”, which means not to give too much stress to
students, therefore it is defined as a regulatory framework to ensure integrity and transparency and
resource efficiency of the educational system through audit and public disclosure while
encouraging innovation and out of the box ideas through autonomy, good governance, and
empowerment. He also gave an impetus about teacher’s flexibility. Teachers will be given
continuous opportunities for self-improvement and to learn the latest innovations and advances in
the professions under Continuous Professional Development (CPD). If the teachers are not able to
disseminate the new things, the innovation process is not going to be increased or fruitful, he
commented.

The orientation on NEP National Education Policy focused on innovation and entrepreneurship
ended with a question and answer session.

Learning Outcome:
Students gained the Knowledge and Information on National Education Policy which was mainly
focused on Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

events with the aim of motivating students to innovate and transform innovations to start-ups.

As part of the quarter-1 activities of the current academic year the KJIC conducted a motivational

SESSION ON WHY IP IS IMPORTANT IN ACADEMIA?
Date: 26 April, 2021
th

Number of beneficiaries: 30 Students and Faculty Members

Name and Details of Resource Persons:

 Dr. Abhay Jere, Chief Innovation Officer, MoE Innovation Cell, New Delhi and
 Dr. Mohit Gambhir, Innovation Director, MoE Innovation Cell, New Delhi

Objective: To understand how Intellectual Property is important for academics, how to file IP and
what are the process involved in filing IP especially in academic field.

Brief write up on the session:

A Session on “why IP is important in academia?” was conducted By MHRD Innovation Cell. The
session was about how patents, trademarks and designs hold an importance in our business life. It
started with Dr. Abhay Jere sharing his views on the same. He talked about how Indians are
lacking behind in converting their ideas into wealth by filing them as an IP. He further stated that
the theme for this year's IP day was "IP and SME (Small and Micro industries) and how this
theme is very crucial and important for India as this will lead to eradication of unemployment in
our country as well. He also talked about the upcoming "Kapila Initiative" launched by the
Innovation Cell encourages higher educational institute students to file IPs, it also provides
guidance and funding for the same.
The session continued with Dr. Mohit Gambhir sharing his views on the Kapila Initiative and
adding up to what Dr. Abhay Jere mentioned earlier. Furthermore, he talked about how
institutions and research centres play a key role in pushing students forward into becoming IP
holders.
He mentioned numerous case studies that helped us to understand our errors and faults in the field.
He made us realize how simple or complicated yet useful innovations have popped up from
university research, e.g. chemotherapy, seat belts, the internet, etc. He also talked about the total
license revenue generated from these IPs. The highest from these was of the anti-epileptic drug
having the revenue of 1.3 Billion dollars in total. Institutes and Professors play a vital role in
pushing the students forward in creating something, he mentioned how they deserve the credit as
they organize such opportunities for the students. He emphasized on how India has all the
resources required for it to become a better country, and for it to eradicate unemployment, all we
need to do is to connect the resources into a flowing ecosystem, and that will end up in ultimately
benefiting all of us. Lastly, he mentioned how the generation of IPs can be done in the institutions
through teaching and research and where are we going wrong in this process.
The session was one hour long and consisted of a lot of fascinating knowledge. It helped the
viewers to understand how it is not that tough to create IPs and to protect our ideas and perhaps, it
is a necessity for development. It also helped us to understand how this will lead us to a better
future as individuals and as a country.
Learning outcome: The participants understood why Intellectual Property is important for
academics, how to file IP and what are the process involved in filing IP especially in academic
field.
