AIM:
To dispense 60 ml of alkaline saline mouthwash.
DEFINITION:
Mouthwash is an aqueous solution which is most often used for its
deodorant, refreshing, antiseptic properties and for control of plague.
It may contain alcohol, glycerine, synthetic sweeteners, flavouring and
colouring agents.
PRINCIPLE:
Sodium bicarbonate is used as an alkalizing agent which increases the
pH of the oral cavity thus prevents the bacterial growth by reducing acidity.
PROCEDURE:
1. 500 mg of sodium chloride and 250 mg of Sodium bicarbonate are
weighed and taken in a glass beaker.
2. To it, added 30ml of Peppermint water, 0.5ml of Amaranth solution and
dissolved using a glass rod.
3. The above solution is transferred to a measuring cylinder and the final
volume is made up to 60 ml with Peppermint water.
4. The above solution is re-transferred to plain bottle with proper label.
CLINICAL USES:
It is used in the treatment of gingivitis and halitosis.
