STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

ABDI HAMID RASHID HASSAN

INTRODUCTION
My name is Abdi Hamid Rashid Hassan. I am 23 years old, I live in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu
County, Kenya. I live with my parents. I am the 8 th born in the family of thirteen children. My
father (Rashid Hassan) is a businessman while my mother (Fatuma Hussein) is a homemaker. I
have twelve brothers and sisters .
In terms of my educational I started my primary education at Eldoret Muslim academy from
2009 to 2019. Afterwards, I pursued my secondary education at Elwak Boys Secondary School
in the year 2020 and graduated in 2023.
My parents will support me financially while I study in Ireland. My father, Rashid Hassan will
cater for my tuition fees and other expense I may incur while in Ireland since we are adequately
prepared financially for the same.

Why I choose to study in Ireland

Ireland provides top-notch education program and learning style that enhances one to be
innovative, creative and exercise independent thinking. Irish graduates are very successful in
getting employed and possess a record to fill top jobs around the world.
The image of the Irish education system is impressive.

It is greatly well-known for its innovative developments and efficient framework, together with
good quality teaching and research practices. Ireland itself boasts professional lecturers who
have immense experience in their line of work. They also provide students with good quality
academic skills and valuable connections. Students are equipped with creative and critical
thinking abilities that can be applied to almost any career.

Studying in Ireland will Increase my career prospects because Irish universities produce quality
graduates who are desired employees in any working environment and employers worldwide
recognize their qualifications. Irish courses are periodically updated with industry feedback,
which ensures the knowledge and expertise are marketable and current, increasing one's ability to
compete in the workplace.
The Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), a 10-level framework, introduced in
2003 allows learners to transfer smoothly throughout the education system. It also allows
countries to simply acknowledge your qualification and award a comparative qualification for
use locally. Ireland is a first world country, it's a highly developed, industrialized high standard
of living country and strong economy unlike Kenya, my homeland and third world country as
well. As a result, the degree of skills and acquired knowledge places me in global competition
ranks to be having higher value for money and decide on future career in the event that I choose
to return to Kenya. Several institutions have the option of me enrolling for the course in Kenya
but there are several challenges that I will have to go through.

Most Kenyan institutions are marred by frequent lecturers' strike which lasts for long.
In addition, in research the facilities are scarce and limited supervisors assigned to students. All
these would usually affect learning and timetables for both students and lecturers. An
undergraduate program in Ireland that would usually take 2 years to complete, takes a maximum
of 4 years in Kenyan universities since there are fewer supervisors for work and projects.

Most public universities have few lecturers who can supervise too many students so they give
students little attention. The study found that a single lecturer with a PhD in local public
university teaches 100 students as opposed to 25 suggested by experts in higher education. In
Ireland, the method of teaching is practical and supplemented by the use of newest methods and
updated syllabus.

The Irish universities produce industry-ready graduates and this provides them with a greater
chance of being part of the leading companies in the world. Apart from that, there is a
requirement for International exposure and global outlook in decision-making because education
is a dynamic sector. While considering living expense and fee-for-tuition rates, Ireland is cost-
effective in terms of USA and Canada. Regarding innovation, excellence qualification
recognition, quality assurance, and multicultural society, Ireland emerges as my most optimistic
system in the world.

Why I choose to pursue Bachelor of Computer Science in Ireland

I chose to pursue a Bachelor of Computer Science because I am interested in technology and
how it can transform lives and improve systems in society.
I have always been keen to pursue higher studies that offer exposure to practical experience and
an international learning environment, which Ireland provides in the form of its world-class
universities and technology-driven economy. Ireland will not only give me access to the latest
knowledge but also expose me to a culture of research and innovation.

A Bachelor of Computer Science from Ireland would take me to a thriving and fast-growing
sector, where I can help create meaningful digital solutions. My dream is to develop software
and technologies that solve real problems in my nation—particularly in education, healthcare,
and access to basic services. By doing this course, I will be in a position to use technology to
improve quality of life and bridge digital divides in disadvantaged communities. I think that with
this qualification, I will be in a position to develop tools that open up possibilities for others and
make a positive difference.

As the demand for technology-driven solutions has been growing, especially with government
and private support, this career will allow me to make every day count—solving problems,
learning daily, and making a difference through innovation.

Tell us about the research that you personally undertook into study options in other
countries or at other Irish institutions?

After researching various universities and colleges across Ireland and other countries, I chose to
apply to Griffith College in Dublin for the Bachelor of Computer Science because I believe it
best matches my academic and career aspirations. I explored several options including Trinity
College Dublin and University College Cork, but Griffith stood out due to its career-focused
approach, international student support, and industry-aligned curriculum.

Griffith College has over 40 years of experience delivering quality higher education and is well-
respected in Ireland and internationally. It is known for its student-centered environment,
cutting-edge facilities, and strong ties with the tech industry. The Computer Science program
offers practical, hands-on learning with modules in programming, software engineering, AI, and
data analytics, equipping students with the necessary tools to succeed in a competitive tech
landscape.
The college’s emphasis on professional development, small class sizes, and experienced faculty
ensure personalized academic attention. Unlike other institutions, Griffith College integrates
real-world experience through internships, industry-led projects, and partnerships with major
tech companies in Dublin—Europe’s thriving tech hub. The college also provides flexible
learning options and has a reputation for graduate employability.

Ireland's globally recognized education system, paired with Griffith’s innovative teaching
methods and multicultural campus, offers me the international exposure I need. I found Griffith’s
comprehensive support services especially attractive—from pre-arrival assistance to dedicated
International Office advisors and career development services. The welcoming atmosphere and
cross-cultural learning environment will help me grow both professionally and personally.

Earning a degree in Computer Science from Griffith College will not only give me strong
technical knowledge but also prepare me for the global workforce. I am confident this path will
open opportunities for meaningful contributions in my home country and beyond, especially in
using technology to solve real-world problems. That is why I chose to study in Ireland and at
Griffith College specifically.

My Expected Career Outcome upon Completion

I have a dream to establish my career as a Computer Scientist in Kenya and I have a clean
professional record. After my Bachelor Course in Computer Science in Ireland I will be coming
back to my home country Kenya to continue kick start my career since I am passionate about
serving my community and people as well as ensuring standards are at maximum.

Getting a Bachelor degree will bring me endless career opportunities for me which justify cost of
the studying in Ireland instead of enrolling in a local college in Kenya and along term benefits
far outweigh the short-term costs. After successful completion of the course and having gone
back Kenya with my Bachelor’s Degree, I expect to get more employment opportunities like
being a member of Community IT Support and Volunteer Developer Officer for NGOs in my
country. https://mywage.org/kenya/career/kenya-jobs-salaries/kenya-information-and-
communications-technology-operations-technicians.

I will also be able to work as a Community IT Support and Volunteer Developer Officer in SOS
children’s village in Eldoret, Kenya. The organization works to reduce poverty; increase access
to quality education and decent work; reduce inequalities and build strong institutions as laid out
in SDGs 1, 4,8,10 and 16. With such a qualification from Griffith College, I can secure an
income of Ksh. 200,000 per month. My responsibility will be to; Set up and maintain computer
systems, networks in community centers, Design and develop software or web applications for
nonprofit or community projects. Provide basic tech troubleshooting and support for users.
http://www.sos-childrensvillages.org/. With the qualifications from Griffith College I look
forward to opening my own Computer Centre, where I will be offering volunteer services for the
aged population and people seeking such IT support. My objective will be to collaborate towards
empowerment and enrichment of persons with malnutrition in Kenya.

Incentives to return back to Kenya

The government and my parents invested so much in my Bachelor in Computer Science and thus
it’s my interest to give back to my community at another level and also be part of Kenya’s vision
2030 Computer Science act. With the internationally accredited degree from Griffith College, I
believe it won’t be difficult for me to secure a permanent role in the IT sectors therefore I will
look forward to come back to Kenya.
Being from a third world country, I have seen children who have not gone to school or drop out
of school in many cases they occur due to lack of finances, early marriages and barbaric acts
such as female genital mutilation, it’s been my desire to see this acts put to an end and make their
dreams come true by seeing them through school. There are many organizations already in place
to fight for the right of girl child and I would love to be part of this amazing teams. This will be
my best opportunity to give back to the society through mentorship programs and being a role
model.
Coming home will be a very exciting time for me as I will be reuniting with my family, friends,
places and things that I will have missed while studying in Ireland. Due to the love I have for my
family, after my studies they will be my first priority and my responsibility hence I will come
back and enjoy my beneficial study from abroad with them back here at home Kenya.
