 Organizational and University System Development

History

In 1959, Dr. Masters opened the Institute of Parapsychology in the heart of Beverly Hills, California. The
aim of the institute was to research higher and expanded states of consciousness as they relate to

1959 spiritual reality and human self-betterment. This goal was accomplished through more Eastern forms of
advanced meditation together with adaptable forms of self-hypnotic techniques. He built a large
following of students and soon had to relocate to the Hollywood area where larger space was available.
During the same time period, Dr. Masters trained his first few teachers.

In 1963, Dr. Masters opened the Mediological Foundation as a

follow-up to research findings amassed in the Institute of Parapsychology. The study and research now
1963 focused primarily on the practices of meditation. Thousands of research experiences by experimenting
students were recorded and the effects on their practical daily lives and spiritual unfoldment were
noted. During this time, Dr. Masters trained numerous meditation teachers.

In 1965, information gathered from the previous years of research began to spread beyond the
Southern California area in the form of printed study materials. Because of this, the National

Metaphysics Institute was founded by Dr. Masters. The study materials attracted attention in all parts
of the country from people who wished to learn and to teach the spiritual truths revealed in the study
materials. Dr. Masters created specific ministerial ordination programs so students could obtain
ministerial status through distance learning and home study.

1968 metaphysical organizations and particularly the Unity Church nationwide.

In 1976, Dr. Masters applied for and gained the legal right to establish the University of Metaphysics
-secular degrees. These degrees were to be granted to

those who were ordained by the NMI ministry up to doctoral degree specialization. The new programs
were to fill a need voiced by current students. At that time, Dr. Masters began to advertise the doctoral
program in various regional and national magazines related to metaphysics. As if by Divine plan,
enrollments came from all over the United States, as well as the entire world.

By 1989, thousands had enrolled in doctoral degree programs throughout the world. The organization
1989 and its university had become international. To meet the needs of this enormous growth, Dr. Masters
incorporated the International Metaphysical Ministry, which exists up to the present day.

A NEW DEFINITION OF THE MEANING OF METAPHYSICS

Traditionally, the word Metaphysics comes to us from Ancient Greece, where it was a combination of
two words Meta, meaning over and beyond and physics. Thus, the combination means over and
beyond physics. In the definition found in most dictionaries, Metaphysics is referred to as a branch of
Philosophy that deals with First Cause and the Nature of Being. It is taught as a branch of Philosophy in

 Philosophy, Religion, Parapsychology, Mysticism, Yoga, ESP, Dreams, Jungian,
Transpersonal and Theocentric Psychology, Astrology, Meditation, Self-Help Studies,
Positive Thinking, Life After Death, Reincarnation, Transcendentalism, Mysticism, etc.

The common denominator of these and all similar subjects, of course, deals with an exploration of
Reality, and in the idealistic sense, how such knowledge may benefit human life on this earth, both
individually and collectively. If, then, this is the aim of such interests, it is why most professional
Metaphysical Practitioners regard Metaphysics as a Spiritual Philosophy or way of life. All but a very few
practitioners in Metaphysics today have a pivotal point of some sort of Spiritual Philosophy in whatever
system or teaching of Metaphysics they are engaged. It is important to understand this, especially when
reviewing the legal technicalities of being in metaphysics professionally.

If we were to travel from one Metaphysical teacher or organization to another, we would find people
engaging in different things, all under the label of Metaphysics. This could be a wide range, such as
yogis, mystics, astrologers, positive thinking teachers, meditation teachers, graphoanalysts, spiritual
healers, self-help teachers, counselors, life-coaches, etc. The range is wide, but again the basic
denominator is the search for truth, purpose and meaning in life, which cannot be isolated from basic
spiritual questions. All of these fields, therefore, are regarded as part of Metaphysics by the University
of Metaphysics and the University of Sedona, in regard to its Doctoral Degree and to its other programs
and affiliations with its students and graduates.

The word holistic is defined in general terms in the dictionary as the theory that a whole is greater than
its parts.

In recent decades the word has come to be used in much more expanded ways as follows:

In General Referring to the concept of a whole person or a person who has synthesized
the three major parts of their being; body, mind and soul or spirit or God.

Spiritually Referring to attempting to become a whole person by synthesizing body, mind,

and soul or spirit or God.

Medically or in the General Healing Arts General references to natural, alternative,

complimentary, and preventative healing modalities.

 In Ministry Used by metaphysical or non-denominational ministers who specialize in
pastoral counseling, life-coaching and/or spiritual healing.

DEFINING NEW THOUGHT

New Thought can be found in larger, unabridged dictionaries and is described as a religious movement.
The so-called father of New Thought was a man by the name of Phineas Parkhurst Quimby who taught
and practiced various forms of spiritual mind healing. The basic premise was that everything is one vast
universal mind, the human mind and body included. The One Mind is God, one with the human mind. By
thinking healing in the human mind/body, the God part of the mind could affect a healing.

Phineas Parkhurst Quimby supposedly taught this to Mary Baker Eddy. Eddy began Christian Science, the
first large metaphysical church in modern history. The success of Christian Science stimulated the
growth of other metaphysically oriented groups, later to become church organizations. Most notable
and successful of these was Unity or the Unity School of Christianity, started by Charles and Myrtle
Fillmore. Religious Science or The Church of Religious Science founded by Ernest Holmes later followed
this. The success of Unity and Religious Science stimulated the birth of many independent churches and
teaching centers along metaphysical lines. Because of a common shared spiritual philosophy held by
Unity, Religious Science and many independents, the term New Thought was adopted to denote a
religious movement. From this was born the International New Thought Alliance that brought together

oriented organizations was formed called Global New Thought.

In 1959, Dr. Paul Leon Masters began what has later on evolved to become the International
Metaphysical Ministry. IMM has joined Unity and Religious Science as one of the major metaphysically
oriented movements that comes under the description of New Thought. The major difference between
IMM and the other majors is that IMM ordained ministers are free to choose operating names of their
choice, as well as what they teach and how they operate providing only that the basic metaphysical
teachings of the organization and its founder are still an integral part of what is shared with the public.

The International Metaphysical Ministry (IMM) was born of an independent Dr. Masters for those
who also wished to be independents though ordained by IMM. The IMM and its University System of
the University of Metaphysics and the University of Sedona are therefore very unique, indeed, in the
field of religion in general and in New Thought.

Before commencing with information on specific career opportunities available in the field of
Metaphysics, here are a few thoughts to keep in mind.

First, you will be reading about the more common approaches used by metaphysicians. We present
these merely as examples, as we have far more up-to-date knowledge to impart to you. This knowledge
has been accumulated over many years through our own experience in conducting many of the
opportunities described herein, and from our close contact with other professionals in the metaphysical
field. Although some of what is described herein will appeal to most readers, there is no reason to feel
limited exclusively to these career opportunities. As the field grows, it may be that you or someone else
may find new ways or means of communicating metaphysical teachings to the public, always making
certain, of course, that any change or innovation follows and is in strict accordance with the legalities
applicable to metaphysical practices at that time. So again, do not feel limited to the career
opportunities described herein. We emphasize this point, as many who have inquired about a
metaphysical career, while communicating to us their enthusiasm and desire to enroll in our doctoral

The choice of how you wish to conduct our professional work is entirely up to you. Here are some
common examples of how professionals in Metaphysics are operating today.

ESTABLISHING A METAPHYSICAL TEACHING AND/OR COUNSELING CENTER

The choice here is for those who like an educational atmosphere in which to present metaphysics to
others. This often times makes the spiritual issues that are dealt with more acceptable to some than in a
church-like atmosphere.

The facility used for this purpose may be an office, a suite of offices, a home that is properly zoned or a
storefront operation. Some organizations or teachers who specialize in courses or seminars prefer to
rent space in hotels or meeting facilities in which to conduct their classes, lectures, courses and
seminars.

Many prefer to work with students on an individual counseling or tutoring basis. Others combine both
individual and group activities as part of the programs. In the business administration part of the
doctoral degree program, full guidance is given on how to successfully set up anything described here at
a minimum starting cost.

ESTABLISHING A METAPHYSICAL CHURCH

Some metaphysicians feel more relaxed in regard to their work when operating in a definite spiritual
atmosphere. Thus, they set up a storefront operation, or convert a home into a suitable church type
setting. This is especially suitable for those who wish to deal with the metaphysical interpretation of the
Bible or other religious scripture, or with spiritual healing. Some rent theatres or halls in which to
conduct their Sunday or weekday services.

WORKING FOR OTHERS

Oftentimes metaphysicians of similar interests will come together in a partnership agreement, or hire
out to an organization whose interests coincide with their own. As the number of metaphysical
organizations is growing daily, it seems that this will occur more frequently in the future. It is a way of
entering into the field of metaphysics without an investment in a facility, and is an approach
recommended by our universities for those just graduating. This is a way to begin, generally on a spare
time basis, while keeping your present employment until such time as you have honed your skills
adequately to develop metaphysical earnings sufficient to enable you to safely enter into metaphysics
on a full time basis.

Now we will deal with specific career opportunities, as well as possible earnings. In no way can we
guarantee the earning potential discussed here, as earnings may be less or more than depicted. We
realize that most practitioners are idealistic, and this is as it should be, but the practical necessities of
life must be provided; therefore, this is intended, at least, to give you some ideas to work with.

 SPECIFIC CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN METAPHYSICS
WRITING
Over the past few decades, writing has been the most lucrative undertaking for most professional
metaphysicians. New books on metaphysical subjects continue to pour off the presses as never before,
and are being purchased in greater numbers. What about the earnings? Let us examine the possibilities.
Cost of the average hardcover metaphysical book is $25.00. A small sale of 50,000 copies is not unusual.
The average royalty is 10%. That would mean $2.50 in your pocket for every book sold or a total of
$125,000 in royalties. Far more is realized by some professional metaphysicians who effectively publish
and distribute the books themselves. As an example, one book containing metaphysical subjects entitled
Psycho-Cybernetics, by Maxwell Maltz sold well into the millions. Again, we can make no guarantee. We
can only state what has been done by others. We can say, however, that doctoral degree recognition
from our universities can certainly be an asset in helping writers to establish themselves.

THE PROFESSIONAL LECTURE CIRCUIT

A human interest article appearing in a past issue of the Los Angeles Times stated that speakers dealing
with metaphysical subjects are now most in demand on the professional lecture circuit, in far greater
demand than any other group including political speakers. If you are not already familiar with the
professional lecture circuit, here is the gist of it. There are professional booking agents for lecturers, just
as there are theatrical agents for performers. If you have no objection to traveling, agents will arrange
booking for your lectures before churches, social groups, fund-raising groups, charities, fraternal
organizations, colleges, business groups, etc. Top lecturers in the field currently earn up to $50,000 per
lecture.

As a rule, agents prefer to handle lecturers who can command at least $1,000 per lecture. Of this
amount, the agent usually takes a commission of 10% to 20%. On this minimum schedule, therefore, the
least you would receive for one lecture is $800. Three lectures scheduled weekly could produce $2,400

or not to take you on, especially in the initial stages when you are trying to establish yourself. Again, our
universities cannot guarantee anything and can only state what has been achieved by others.

LECTURING FOR METAPHYSICAL ORGANIZATIONS

Most organizations offer lecturers a percentage of the gate, usually from one-third to one-half of the
monies collected. The average metaphysical lecture generally has an attendance of 100 people at an
average admittance of $10 each. That would mean that an average lecture would produce $1,000. Your
earnings, therefore, could be anywhere from $330 to $500. Three lecture weekly of this type could
produce somewhere between $990 and $1,500.

WEEKEND SEMINARS
Larger earnings could be anticipated for teaching weekend seminars, which have become increasingly
popular. The charge for an average weekend seminar runs about $250, with an average attendance of
100 people. That could mean a gross of $25,000. Most organizations will generally pay a seminar
teacher 5% to 10% of the gross receipts, which in this example could realize $1,250 to $2,500 for
teaching. Seminars such as these represent good earnings for most people.

CONDUCTING YOUR OWN SEMINARS
Your financial risk factor is higher here because you must spend the monies necessary for advertising to
promote the seminar and to obtain an appropriate facility, etc. However, if your seminar is successful
and grosses $25,000, your expenses will more than likely have been about half that amount, or $12,500,
leaving you with a like amount as net profit for a weekend of teaching, which also involves a great deal
of administrative work. It is suggested that our graduates ease into this type of undertaking because of
the financial risk factors involved. However, if you successfully establish such a seminar program,
thousands of dollars in net profit weekly is possible. Again, we cannot guarantee it, but can only speak
of the financial potential.

METAPHYSICAL PERSONAL PROBLEM COUNSELING

One-on-one personal problem counseling is the most rewarding area of work for many metaphysicians,
while at the same time, the least financially rewarding. It is suggested that graduates do no more than
four hours of counseling a day as negative vibrations can begin to take effect. Psychiatrists, as an
example, have
problems occasionally, but very difficult to be doing it hour after hour, day in and day out.

The average charge by metaphysical counselors today is $50 per hour. Working four hours a day equals
$200 per day or $1,000 per week based on a five-day week.

It should be noted that people do not generally beat down the door to see a metaphysical counselor.
Consultations usually result from giving lectures and teaching classes. This is what our universities advise
its doctoral degree graduates to do.

We have found that the average person seeking metaphysical counseling comes for an average of three
consultations. A long-term series of consultations, such as in Psychiatry, is the exception rather than the
rule in metaphysics.

This means that if counseling work is your primary interest, you must continually be acquiring new
clientele for your practice through lectures, seminars or church ministry.

PRACTITIONERS WORK SPIRITUAL HEALING

Years ago, Mary Baker Eddy conceived the idea of the metaphysical practitioner. Many metaphysical
teachers and organizations have adopted this idea down through the years.

A metaphysical practitioner is generally a person who accepts requests for prayer treatment for
physical, emotional and/or financial conditions needing improvement. Not all use prayer. Some use
meditation and others use telepathic healing.

Most professional practitioners, who have been active for some time, generally take such requests over
the Internet, telephone or by mail. Many have a standard weekly charge for giving treatments. That is,
they agree to treat at least once daily for a week, or however long agreed upon, or until the condition is
cleared up.

The average weekly charge is $50. A well-established practitioner may be treating as many as 50 to 100
people weekly. In terms of income, such a practice could mean an income of $2,500 to $5,000 per week.

Practitioners usually establish their clientele by attending all metaphysical functions of the organization
to which they belong, and/or by giving lectures or courses on Spiritual Healing, or through a church
ministry.

The holistic trend toward alternative medicine has increased the demand for metaphysical practitioners
and should continue to do so for many years to come.

While our universities cannot guarantee how much you might expect to earn, we can definitely state
that if your interest is more in healing, you probably have the best of all opportunities in the
Metaphysical field today.

Your doctoral degree from the University of Metaphysics or University of Sedona will certainly be an
advantage in the healing arts, as most people psychologically associate the title Doctor with healing.

INTERNET PRESENCE
The success over the years of such metaphysical mainstay organizations such as the Rosicrucians in San
Jose, CA, Astara, The Mayans, and others, offers proof that internet business can be a successful vehicle
for communication of metaphysical knowledge. These organizations all had excellent material, of
course, which is the true factor underlying their continued growth and success. There is room for more,
however, as we currently see an abundance of organizations operating in the same manner.

Websites offering audio recordings, CDs, DVDs and products such as crystals, incense, books,
metaphysical jewelry, etc., do well in Internet commerce.

Astrological analysis and charts have been and continue to be enormously successful as well as online
counseling and life coaching enterprises.

Obviously, whatever form of Internet venture you may choose to go into could be greatly enhanced by
your having doctoral degree recognition from the University of Metaphysics or the University of Sedona.
We are not saying that it will assure your success in the metaphysical Internet business, but it certainly
will add to your chance of success, especially if you are a beginner or not well known in the metaphysical
field.

LEGALITIES FOR TEACHING, COUNSELING AND

HEALING IN METAPHYSICS
In seeking doctoral recognition in the Metaphysical field, it is very important that you understand the
legalities. This will help you to understand why your doctoral degree program is set up the way it is.

First, the field of metaphysics as it exists today, does not fall under the label of Psychology, which is the
closest to it of all established professional fields. The explanation for this is that most metaphysical
teachings incorporate, or have as their main theme, the spiritual nature of the human being. Hence,
many years back, metaphysics was established as Spiritual Philosophy and, thus, under existing state
laws nationwide, was placed in the legal classification of Religion.

Anyone that you see teaching, counseling or healing in popularized metaphysics today, if doing so with
legal protection, is operating in the field of Religion and has a legal ministerial status. They may choose

not to advertise this fact or call attention to it unless challenged to do so, unless, of course, they have
chosen to open up a clearly apparent spiritual center or church.

Your own legal right to teach, counsel, or heal in the contemporary field of metaphysics today is
determined by having an ordained ministerial status, not upon a doctoral degree in metaphysics. The
primary purpose of the doctoral degree is to establish a highly professional image of you as a person
who is truly learned in Holistic, New Thought Metaphysics, Transpersonal, Transcendent, Theocentric
and has taken the time to obtain a doctoral level of knowledge.

For the reasons stated, therefore, you must have a ministerial status to practice legally. As explained
later in this report, you may obtain such ministerial status in our accelerated completion ministerial
training course. The subjects covered in the curriculum of this course are listed further on in this
Prospectus.

Ministerial status with the IMM is, therefore, a prerequisite for studying and earning a
doctoral degree from our universities. You must earn your doctoral degree by having first
obtained ministerial status with the IMM. Also, you may earn a doctoral degree from the University of
Metaphysics or University of Sedona if you already possess ministerial standing with another
organization; however, you will still need to achieve ministerial status with the IMM.

HOW YOUR MINISTERIAL STATUS OPERATES

Now that you have an understanding of why a ministerial status is necessary to operate legally in
metaphysics, the following describes how simply your ministerial status operates.

As stated, you must have a ministerial status to operate legally, apart from your
degree. Once you have been granted ministerial status, you must maintain that status. You must show
some relationship between yourself as an independent minister and the parent body, the International
Metaphysical Ministry, which prepares you for the legal right to practice and for justification of the legal
use of your degree titles.

This relationship between the IMM, as the parent body, and those with a ministerial status has been
developed into a very simple system that takes little time and effort. The procedure is as follows. Upon
completion of your ministerial study, your Ordination Diploma will be mailed to you.
These are one-page reports of your monthly activities. Included
with these reports, if mailed, will be twelve envelopes for your convenience in mailing them each
month. As these reports are received, they are entered into your personal file. Should anyone challenge
your ordination, your file will reflect your active status. This is necessary because it provides evidence of
a continuing relationship between you, the minister, and the parent organization, the IMM. Evidence of
a continuing relationship confirms your current ministerial status for the purpose of meeting local civil
government codes and ordinances. In establishing your independent ministry, this evidence of an
ongoing affiliation also protects you from the possibility of being confused with a diploma mill mail-
order ministry, where a person merely sends in money to the office issuing the degree, receives
ordination papers and then has no further contact with the issuing organization. This lack of a continuing

question with various government bodies.

Our system of mailing in monthly report forms demonstrates that you are an active, recognized
ordained minister with a reputable religious educational organization. We are reputable because our
original parent body ministry was founded in 1959, maintains its own facilities, and has year-round
activities. The name was changed in 1989 to the International Metaphysical Ministry to better reflect
the scope of the ministry, which has truly become international. Imagine that if you had some legal
difficulty about your right to practice, based on your ordination, and found that the organization from
which you received your credentials had suddenly disappeared. Any legal difficulties would be far more
challenging.

Now that you understand the necessity of having a ministerial status and how it works, the next
question in your mind may well be the fee.

Affiliation fees are $60 yearly. This amounts to only $5 monthly, a small sum for the ministerial
recognition in a worldwide ministry. The $5 monthly fee, or $60 annually, is principally used to cover
administrative costs such as the handling of your monthly reports, necessary entries in your personal
Funds left over in excess are used to provide scholarship funds to our University
enrollees who cannot afford the full tuition fee.

This fee is due at the time of issuance of your ministerial credentials. The date on which you sign the
ordination vows commences your yearly cycle of payment.

Remember, this fee is apart from the tuition of your doctoral degree program and again, is not due until
you are on a ministerial status. Once you have received your ordination papers, you may legally practice.
This applies whether or not you plan to continue in the doctoral program, providing local and state
requirements are met, as explained on the concluding page of this report.

LEGITIMACY
The IMM, parent body of the University of Metaphysics, has the full legal right to award any diplomas
and degrees it offers under the provisions of the California Education Code, Section #94302(w)5, and
graduates the full legal right to use doctoral titles awarded in conjunction with the ministerial status
conferred.

The University of Sedona, a division of a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Tax Exempt Corporation is in compliance
with the exemption status of Arizona for the awarding of non-secular degrees oriented to the teachings
of the IMM.

Our papers of Incorporation are on file with the County Clerk in the City of Los Angeles, and also in the
Office of the Secretary of State in Sacramento. Note: at the time of printing; parent body I.M.M.
corporation status is being established in the state of Arizona.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRANCE IN THE

DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAM
Age: 18 years minimum.

Academic Background: High school or its equivalent, as earned through a high school equivalency test
or through practical work experience.

Study Background: Holistic New Thought Metaphysical study background can be either formal (i.e.
through attendance in formal courses or classes), or informal (self-taught though books, CDs, etc.), or a
longstanding interest and self-study of philosophy, psychology, self-help disciplines, religion, motivation
and/or related areas.

Personal References: At least three personal references as to character, integrity, etc., must be
provided on the original application form, submitted at the time of your enrollment by mail. A letter will
be sent to each of the personal references you submit, so be certain that addresses are correct. Due to
the personal contact with the public in the work, anyone with a felony in his or her background should
not apply.

Transcripts: We maintain a permanent file on all of our doctoral students and graduates. While it is not
necessary that documentation of other awards be in your file, it does help to establish a better student
profile. Transcripts of your work are available and can be sent out at your request.

Tuition: Required tuition must accompany your original application, according to the payment plan you
have chosen, in order for us to proceed with the processing of your enrollment.

 TUITION AND THE AWARDING OF YOUR DIPLOMAS AND DEGREES
Three tuition payment plans are offered as follows:

Plan 1: Prepayment of entire tuition

Plan 2: Twenty month affordable monthly plans
Plan 3: Forty-eight month affordable monthly plans

If you prepay your entire tuition, your diplomas and degrees will be awarded to you at the time of
completion and successful acceptance of the study requirements for each section of your doctoral
degree program.

If you enroll in a tuition payment plan, your diplomas and degrees will be awarded to you at the time of
successful completion of the -third paid, and
-thirds paid. The doctoral degree will be awarded
upon successful completion of the doctoral study assignment at such a time as the tuition has been paid
in full.

Prepaying your entire tuition would, therefore, facilitate the awarding of your diplomas and degrees as
they are earned. The selection of a tuition payment plan

If time is a factor and you are unable to pay the tuition in full, enroll under a tuition payment plan.
Because this plan calls for a monthly contract, with improved financial conditions at a later date you

payment plans at no interest. There are no banks or outside finance companies to deal with. Credit is
extended to everyone together with those with no credit or bad credit.

When you decide to pursue your doctoral degree program with our University System, we have made it
very easy for you to enroll either online, or by printing the completed enrollment form and mailing it to
our administrative office. Once your enrollment application is processed, you will receive an official
enrollment confirmation along with the shipping date of your study materials. If you wish, you may
choose to have your study materials sent to you electronically.

Since our Doctoral program is self-paced distance learning, you have the flexibility to structure your
studies according to your life circumstances and from the comfort of your home. You also have the

 FORMAT OF OUR OFF-CAMPUS DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAM
A SELF-PACED ACCELERATED PROGRAM

BACHELOR S DEGREE
Ordained minister/practitioner status is accomplished by taking weekly exams on the scheduled
modules. The exams are to be mailed in together after completion of the entire curriculum. A score of
80% is required for passing modules, covering an accelerated completion period the average would be
close to two modules per week. Approximate time needed to study the curriculum and answer exam
questions is about two hours weekly. Upon completion of the requirements, ministerial/practitioner
status is established

and diplomas are awarded by mail unless you choose to participate in a formal cap and gown ceremony,
which is held periodically.

MASTER S DEGREE

This second step period is devoted to the master degree modules at the rate of three modules per week,
requiring approximately three hours weekly in study time. A score of at least 80% is required for passing.

EXPLANATION OF THE STATUS OF THE DOCTORAL DEGREE IN

HOLISTIC NEW THOUGHT METAPHYSICS
As previously explained, the field of Holistic New Thought Metaphysics, as it is practiced today, comes
under the legal classification of Religion. The reason being that most people in the field deal with the

Metaphysics is also considered of a religious or spiritual nature.

Metaphysics, as it is commonly taught that is, along spiritual lines has not been a part of the
academic community, again because it is spiritual in nature. Metaphysics is taught in Philosophy courses
at academic universities as a branch of Speculative Philosophy, which is not the method of teaching
commonly used by practitioners of Metaphysics.

Therefore, Metaphysics, as it is popularly taught today, does not fit into the mold of the academic
community. Because of this, your doctoral degree in Holistic New Thought Metaphysics, while
completely legal in every way, is not considered an academic degree but a doctoral degree in a

In founding the University of Metaphysics and the University of Sedona, one of the most important
reasons I did so was to bring greater legitimacy to the field of metaphysical spirituality. The field has
been under attack from extremist fundamentalist religious groups as well as academics, especially in
regard to degree granting schools in the metaphysical field.

Unfortunately, the criticism has been justified in many instances by people operating diploma mills or
others using accrediting mills. Since inception of my work in the metaphysical field in 1959 to our first
graduating class of ministers in 1963, one of the first priorities was to maintain honesty and integrity.
Since 1959, the intention has been to bring further legitimacy to the metaphysical field, so that higher
metaphysical education and metaphysical spirituality might gain further acceptance in the world as a
realistic alternative for people who could not be nourished spiritually by traditional religions.

ACCEPTING METAPHYSICAL SPIRITUALITY

If you, like myself, would like to have a better acceptance of metaphysical spirituality in the world, then
enroll or become a member of only schools and ministries which do not bring the field down through
deceptive or misleading practices. This will give the entire field of metaphysical spirituality greater
legitimacy and public acceptance of its schools, counselors, coaches, and wellness ministers.

The names of these so-called accreditation mills sound very impressive to anyone that has not looked
into the subject of legitimate accreditation and what it takes for a school to be legitimately accredited. A
legitimate accrediting agency must be recognized by the United States Department of Education in
Washington, D.C. Accrediting mills only require the applicant to fill out a simple form and to mail in the
required fee to the operator of the specific accreditation mill. Obviously, it is in no way recognized as a
legitimate accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education.
