Essay
Public Health is one of the world's leading concern and is responsible for a significant
proportion of the burden of injuries and diseases. Improving survival and outcomes following
injury and disease have been identified as a key priority by the World Health Organization.
Public Health pose a major academic and clinical challenge world-wide, especially in
developing countries. To accept this challenge, I have decided to undertake higher education
in the field of Public Health.
The interest in Public Health developed during my days at high school. The interest stemmed
from personal experiences from society and culture regarding lack of awareness about Public
Health. These experiences helped me pursuing my career in medical sciences. During
medical school, I have had many experiences that have reinitiated and reinforced my desire to
become Public Health specialist.
Public Health distinguishes itself to me as a sophisticated specialty of tremendous amount of
knowledge and practical implications. Its combination of clinical and non-clinical cases and
its range of therapeutic options and patient management exemplify the scope of this field. In
addition, Public Health problems impact people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. I
admire this field’s ability to restore a patient’s feeling of dignity and self-worth through the
renewal of function and independence. I am enthusiastic to meet the challenges that this field
will pose to my academic and clinical evaluation, judgement, and talents.
I want to pursue the Master of Public Health Program to research and implement intervention
policies aimed at providing the population with direct access to health care services. Also, I
inspire to infuse health care concepts in young men and women by integrating health
awareness in educational programs and conducting campaigns that would elevate a sense of
responsibility for a better well-being.
My experiences have enhanced my regard for academic knowledge, clinical practice, and
research in field of Public Health. During my undergraduate years, I did my research project,
entitled ‘Study to determine the knowledge and practice of foot care in patients with chronic
diabetic ulcers’. During this experience, I was entrusted with a great amount of independence
and responsibility. These opportunities have provided me with an intimate introduction to the
dynamic nature of Public Health and a desire to contribute to the vibrant advancement of this
speciality.
I have balanced my education with extracurricular activities. I also have tremendous amount
of patience, communication & interpersonal skills, patient care & management, trauma
management, counselling skills, Microsoft office skills, medical ethics, and respect for
patient confidentiality.
I can only imagine the future, but I can design it today. The application for admission of
master’s in Public Health is the first but the most important step.
I look forward to an enriching and exhilarating academic career at your esteemed University.
