LoRa-Enabled Safety Footwear for Women
Abstract—This paper presents the development of a smart, wearable safety system—Women
Safety Shoes—designed to enhance personal security for women through the integration of
advanced technologies. The device combines real-time location tracking, obstacle detection, a
self-defense mechanism, and an emergency alert system within a practical shoe design. A key
feature is the inclusion of a camera module that automatically activates during emergencies.
When the emergency button is triggered, the system captures images or video and transmits
them, along with real-time location data, to a pre-defined contact. Unlike conventional GSM-
based communication, the proposed system employs LoRa/LoRaWAN technology, enabling
low-power, long-range transmission without dependence on cellular networks—making it
suitable for remote or low-connectivity areas. This research outlines the design, architecture, and
implementation of the system, demonstrating its potential as a proactive and reactive personal
safety solution. The proposed design empowers women with increased confidence and rapid
emergency response capabilities, making it a viable solution for real-world safety challenges.
