KKK - July 7, 1892 in a house on Azcarraga street in Tondo, Manila.
KKK - a revolutionary society that espoused independence and freedom for the Philippines through force of arms.
As a symbol of the member’s loyalty, they performed the solemn rite of sanduguan (blood compact), wherein
each one signed his name with his own blood.
The members agreed to recruit more people using the “triangle system” of enlistment.
Political goal was to completely separate the Philippines from Spain after declaring the country’s independence.
Moral goal was to teach the Filipinos good manners, cleanliness, hygiene, fine morals, and how to guard themselves against religious fanaticism.
Civic goal was to encourage Filipinos to help themselves and to defend the poor oppressed.
The KKK was headed by a supremo, or president. Each province had a “Sangguaniang Bayan” (Provincial Council) and each town had a “Sangguniang Barangay” (Popular Council).

Suspended from the neck was a green ribbon with a medal, with the letter K in ancient tagalog script inscribed in the middle.

Emilio Jacinto - Born on December 15, 1875 in Tondo, Manila.
Son of Mariano Jacinto (bookkeeper) and Josefa Dizon.
Finished his early education in a private school then took up his secondary education at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
He studied law at the UST.
He had to stop his studies when the Philippine Revolution began in 1896.
He joined the Katipunan in 1894 at the age of 18 and took the symbolic name Pingkian.
He wrote the Kartilya as well as the oath of the Katipuneros.
He edited the Katipunan newspaper, Kalayaan.
He was also an author of several literary writings using the pen-name Dimas Ilaw.
He served the Katipunan in different capacities such as secretary, fiscal, editor, and later was appointed General by Bonifacio in 1897.
After Bonifacio’s death in Cavite in 1897, he continued to fight against the Spaniards.
He was wounded and captured in Magdalena, Laguna. Died on April 6, 1899 (age 24).
Kartilya - printed in a small pamphlet that was distributed to the members of the Katipunan.
this document served as the primary lessons for the members of the Katipunan.
The Kartilya presents not only the teachings for the neophyte Katipunero but also the guiding principles of the society.

I - A life that is not dedicated to a great and sacred cause is like a tree without a shade, or a poisonous weed.
II. - A good deed lacks virtue if it springs from a desire for personal profit and not from a sincere desire to do good.
III. - True charity resides in acts of compassion, inlove for one’s fellow men, and in making true Reason the measure of every move, deed and word.
VII. Don’t waste time; lost wealth may be recovered, but time lost is lost forever.
VIII.Defend the oppressed and fight the oppressor.
IX. An intelligent man is he who takes care in everything he says and keep quiet about what must be kept secret.
X. Along the thorny path of life, the man leads the way and his wife and children follow. If the leader goes the way of perdition, then so do those who are led.
XI. Do not regard a woman as a mere plaything, but as a helpmate and partner in the hardships of this existence. Have due regard to her weakness, and remember the mother who
brought you into this world and nurtured you in your infancy.
XII. What you would not want done to your wife, daughter and sister, do not do to the wife, daughter and sister of another.
XIII. A man’s worth does not come from him being a king, or in the height of his nose and the whiteness of his face, or in him being a priest, a representative of God, or in his
exalted position on the face of this earth.
