Helping Old People in Our Local Area
In our community, a major issue that many elderly people face is loneliness. As
family members often live far away or have busy lives, older people can go for days
without speaking to anyone. This can seriously affect their mental health and
overall well-being.
Our school could take some practical steps to help. Firstly, we could organise a
student volunteering programme where pupils visit elderly residents in local care
homes. This would give the students valuable life experience and give the older
people someone to talk to. Secondly, we could set up workshops to help older
people learn basic digital skills. Teaching them how to send messages, make video
calls, or even shop online would help them feel more connected and independent.
Additionally, our local area could benefit from more community centres offering
free social events for the elderly. Improving public transport and making public
spaces more accessible would also make a big difference.
Helping older people is not only kind but also builds stronger communities.
Everyone deserves to feel valued, regardless of age.
