Unit 3: Corrosion and Electrode System:

Corrosion Chemistry: Introduction, electrochemical theory of corrosion, types of corrosion-


differential metal and differential aeration. Corrosion control - galvanization, anodizing of
aluminum and sacrificial anodic method. Corrosion Penetration Rate (CPR) – Introduction
and numerical problem.

Electrode System: Introduction, types of electrodes. Ion selective electrode –Introduction,


types, construction, working and applications of glass electrode. Determination of pH using
glass electrode. Reference electrode - Introduction, calomel electrode – construction,
working and applications of calomel electrode. Concentration cell– Definition, construction,
working and Numerical problems.

Analytical Techniques: Introduction, principle, instrumentation and applications of


Conductometry and Potentiometry. IR and UV- Visible spectroscopy.

Unit 4: Polymers and Green Fuels:

Polymers: Introduction, conducting polymers – synthesis and conducting mechanism of


polyacetylene and applications. photoconductive polymer: Synthesis, properties and
applications of polyvinyl carbazole (PVK). Synthesis, properties and applications of
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene polymer (ABS).

Lab Portion for Part C of IA QP:

1. Conductivity of Acid mixture


2. Viscosity coefficient of Lubricant
3. Total Hardness of water
