1.GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1 Industrial Information.
• What is networking?
Networking is the discipline and technology associated with connecting computing devices and
systems to enable communication and resource sharing.
This definition focuses on the core concept of connection, communication, and resource
sharing without relying on analogies. It highlights both the technological aspect and the field
of study involved.
• The Birth of the Internet: When, Where, and By Whom?
Think of the internet as something that evolved rather than being invented by one person at a
single moment. Its roots go back to the late 1960s in the United States, with a project called
ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network).
It wasn't really "invented" by one person, but a group of smart people working for the U.S.
Department of Defense's research arm (ARPA, now DARPA) and at universities developed the
key ideas and technologies. Important figures include:
J.C.R. Licklider: He had early visions of an "Intergalactic Computer Network" in the early
1960s.
Paul Baran and Donald Davies: They independently came up with the crucial idea of packet
switching in the mid-1960s.
Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf: They are often called the "fathers of the Internet" for developing
TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) in the 1970s, the fundamental
communication rules that allow different networks to talk to each other.
2
So, it wasn't a single invention, but a process that started in the late 1960s in the USA with
government-funded research and the work of several key scientists and engineers.
• The First Internet/Networking Companies?
It's tricky to pinpoint the absolute "first" internet company because the early days were mostly
about research and government projects. However, as ARPANET grew and the technology
developed, some of the early players that were crucial in building and commercializing
networking include:
BBN (Bolt Beranek and Newman): This company played a key role in building the Interface
Message Processors (IMPs), the early routers for ARPANET, starting in 1969.
Telenet: In 1974, Telenet became the first commercial public packet-switched data network,
essentially an early version of an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Companies involved in developing and selling early networking hardware and software as local
area networks (LANs) like Ethernet (developed at Xerox PARC in the early 1970s) became
more common in the 1980s.
So, early players were research-focused companies and those who started offering public data
network services.
• History of Networking Over the Years:
Late 1960s: Birth of ARPANET in the USA, the first major packet-switching network.
Development of TCP/IP, the core communication rules of the internet. Early local area network
(LAN) technologies like Ethernet emerge.
1980s:TCP/IP becomes the standard on ARPANET, often seen as the official start of the
internet. The Domain Name System (DNS) is introduced.
1990s: Tim Berners-Lee invents the ‘World Wide Web’ at CERN, making the internet much
more user-friendly with websites and browsers. The internet becomes commercialized and
accessible to the general public, leading to rapid growth.
2000s: Rise of broadband internet, e-commerce, social media, and more sophisticated online
applications.
3
2010s: Explosion of mobile internet access through smartphones and the development of faster
wireless technologies (like 4G LTE).
2020s (and beyond): Continued growth of mobile internet, the rise of 5G, increasing focus on
artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IOT), and further advancements in network speed
and capacity.
• The Supply of the Internet?
Think of the "supply" of the internet as the infrastructure and services that allow us to connect.
It's not like a physical product you produce in a factory. Instead, it's built and maintained by
many different players.
Infrastructure Providers: Companies that lay down the physical cables (fiber optic, copper),
build cell towers, and operate data centers.
Internet Service Providers (ISPs): Companies like Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea in India, or
Comcast and AT&T in the US, who sell internet access to homes and businesses. They connect
users to the broader internet infrastructure.
Network Equipment Manufacturers: Companies that make the hardware like routers, switches,
and modems that make the internet work.
Content Providers: Companies and individuals who create the websites, apps, videos, and other
content we access online. They "supply" the information and entertainment.
So, the "supply" of the internet is a complex web of interconnected companies and technologies
working together.

1.7 History
The story of this growing telecom company begins with Kaushik Chauhan, who started his first
business, Optimal Telemedia, in Ahmedabad. Around the same time, Nirag Shah started two
companies — JTM Internet and JTM Infra — which focused on internet services and building
network infrastructure.
Realizing that working together would create more opportunities, Chauhan and Shah decided
to merge their businesses. After joining forces, JTM Internet focused on providing internet
services, while JTM Infra handled the network infrastructure.
The new company was officially formed on June 27, 2017, in Gujarat with just 14 employees.
Thanks to rising demand for internet services and smart leadership, the company grew rapidly.
By 2020, the team had expanded to more than 72 people.
The company then started expanding beyond Gujarat. On December 15, 2021, it opened a new
branch in Rajasthan, showing its commitment to serving more customers across India.
A major turning point came on November 23, 2023, when the company received the Unified
License (UL) ISP Category A from the government. This license allowed the company to
provide internet services all over India.
By 2024, after years of strategic planning, growth, and government approvals, the company
had established a presence across the country — including regions like Jammu & Kashmir,
Assam, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and many more.
