Record of initial ideas

To be completed by the candidate

This page records initial meeting(s) with your supervisor to agree your project ideas. Additional pages can be submit-
ted if more than one idea has been explored.

My idea(s) for topic/title:

private individual educational institutions vs public education schools.
I’m a number of private educational institutions of my high school, so that I’m interested in the operation of it, and
why the private schools can survive in the education industry with low enrollments.
My preliminary research and development of my project ideas:

The development of educations has shown the difference between public education and individual educational in-
stitutions.
According to “Private School vs. Public School” (Us news), students tends to choose public schools more than pri-
vate schools. With more than 13000 public schools appeared and 30000 private schools district, the numbers of
pupils choosing individual education schools with only 5.7 millions of students. Whereas, the number of pupils who
choose public school had came up to 50.7 million in 2018.

So why would these about 6 millions of pupils choose public school rather than studying in private school?
Moreover, with the low enrollment in the education industry, how would the private institutions survive without the
enough population of students.Through out the essay, I would be tend to find out the different ways of different
schools earning profits, with their different education quality, courses, class size, Teacher training, Certification, di-
versity of extracurricular programs and Teaching style.
My summary of the comments and advice from my supervisor (and specialist consultant if applicable):
My supervisor suggests that I should start with the introduction of the difference between public and private ed-
ucation, so that I can find out which is better in the education industry and decide what to explore more deeply next
by researching resources on the internet. Then, compare the pros and cons of them. Finally, connecting the data
with economic logic.

Modifications I have made as a result of my discussion with my supervisor (and specialist consultant if applicable):

After I’ve communicate with my supervisor, I decide to cut some part of the aims about digging out the difference
between two schools because I’ve listed out too much differences. Also use a more specific details topic for exam-
ple, change the private institution to private school which can create more comparison between two schools, focus
more on the education industry and how the revenue made by two schools. Also try to use more reliable resources
and put more attention on the exact details of the data.

My proposed title, aims and objectives:

public schools vs private individual schools

Planning review

To be completed by the candidate

This page records your outline plan once your proposal has been approved.

My next steps in planning, researching and deadlines that I will set myself. What I intend to do, by when, what re-
sources I will use and how I will implement the recommendations of the centre coordinator (where appropriate).
I have reflected on the comments that my supervisor had gave to me about my proposal. I agree with my su-
pervisor that my title should be more comparative and clear. Apparently, I’ve change my title to ‘public school vs
private school’, and both of them I will introduce their pros and cons base on the resource that I’ve researched.
Thought out the researching, I will use more reliable resources and data which can give my result and summary
more accurate. For instance, the essay ‘Teacher Recruitment and Retention in Public and Private Schools’ indi-
cates the teacher quality in public and private schools; the report ‘National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)’
also introduces the proper numbers of enrollment in private and public schools. The more specific data will also
help me reach a more balanced, evidence-based conclusion and ultimately my project. Moreover, I will connect the
facts of the education with economic more relevantly which can more easily solve my question about how the two
types of school make money. I believe that by doing this I will able to answer each question in more detail way and
make notes more easily. I will more focus on the three initial point - class size, quality of teacher and diverse of ex-
tracurricular activity. They are the majorities of my topic and enlarge my content with more data and resources.
My supervisor taught me that I should have a conclusion of which type of school that I think is better, and make a
conclusion about the problems about nowadays education industry are facing. Apparently, making the passage
combine with the management topic.

The reasons for my decisions.

See above section for reasons for decisions.

My summary of the comments and advice from my supervisor (and specialist consultant if applicable).
After having conversation with my supervisor, I realize that I should keep going on understanding more about
the difference between public school and private school, and discuss the two type of school. Making a comparison
about the class size, quality of teacher and diverse of extracurricular activities. I was not working sigher forwardly,
because I was confused about whether I want to writer a passage about education or economic. During my meet-
ing, I finally realize that I should add the final conclusion about how to solve or what to do as I taking over to man-
age the school. My supervisor also said that the plan of allocating my time, outlined in Appendix 1, was detailed
and reasonable. A detailed plan would play an essential role in good time management for all the jobs I need to
complete by the Mild project Review.

Modifications I have made as a result of my discussion with my supervisor (and specialist consultant if applicable).
I response to my supervisor that my title should be specific, so I decide to narrowed my title to ‘ ‘, which can
express my aim more easily. As outlined above, I will keep on going with explore more about my three small
points. After I have research on line, I found more easy and news about my topic which support my ideas more re-
liable. The easy called ‘How Changing Class Size Affects Classrooms and Students’ gives me more new ideas
about how the class size affecting students. Also the website ‘learn.org' which indicates more points and I appreci-
ate that I can understanding more about the effect that class size can bring to the different grades or different na-
tionality of students.

Mid-project review

To be completed by the candidate

This page records your outline plan when you have completed your research.

Is my project following my proposed plan? How has my plan developed since my project proposal?
My project has on the whole followed the original plan I made.
My project has on the whole followed the original plan l made, which is on Appendix 1. Although I was not able
to acquire 10 degree level resources I did manage to obtain 8, which I believe to be an adequate number and
I’ve collect most of my resources on different levels of essay, such as ‘How Changing Class Size Affects
Classrooms and Students’ and ‘A comparative look at private and public schools' class size determi-
nants’, which both indicates the importance of class size which had given me numerous of idea for my topic.

My summary of the comments and advice from my supervisor (and specialist consultant if applicable).
My supervisor supported my opinion about changing my method to using a stream flow meter, he has man-
aged to provide me huge assistance when I was struggling with what to do in the next step. He had also supported
me to develop and built up more content as I was writing.

Modifications I have made as a result of my discussion with my supervisor at this stage (and specialist consultant
if applicable).
Looking over my topic, I have always split up the topics into smaller questions which I can individually focus on.
However the lack of planning may be main topic of this article which borders me a lot. Whereas, for sure I have
completed most of my article and after I had talked to my supervisor, I had finally found the direction.

As for goals, I will set the number of words I must have written in the essay at the end of each week.
That way I will focus on making sure I write enough.

My final title, aims and objectives

My final title, aims and objectives will still keep on doing with the topic ‘Private School V.S Public school: An Investi-
gation into Class size, Teacher Salary and Extracurricular’ which I have talked with my supervisor.
This is an appropriately focused title which will allow me to be as evaluative and specific as possible. My project
will be in the form of a 5000-word evaluative report weighing up the pros and cons of each approach and using the
information from several degree-level resources to come to a balanced, evidence based on the management of ed-
ucation policy. The resources will include a source evaluation at the end, profiling each resource used and judging
its utility based on information such as the authors, the publishers and the date of publication.

My planned next steps to achieve my project’s aims and objectives.

My project will be in the form of a 5000-word evaluative report weighing up the pros and cons of each ap-
proach and using the information from several degree-level resources to come to a balanced and now that re-
search is mostly completed, what remains is to finish up the essay. I came up to the conclusion part and just
need to end the article. At the end, profiling each resource used and judging its utility based on information

Project product review

To be completed by the candidate

This page records the near completion of your project product. Outline the successes, failures, additions and/or
changes you made as you followed the plan in your mid-project review.

Did my project follow my revised plan from the mid-project review?

On the whole, my project did follow my revised plan, although the timing I set myself may have been a bit
unreasonable, although much less so than the time plan for working towards the Mid
Project Review. I was able to split my time and energy to organize with my paper
but I was miserable because that my resources are not able to hold my evidence,
because the deeper knowledge area that I am going through. However, I still figure
out the way of slowing that and I am appreciate that I can understand more deeper
knowledge, and know my presentation is nearly finished.

My summary of the comments and advice from my supervisor at this final stage (and specialist consultant if applica-
ble).
After submitting the first draft of my written report, l met my supervisor, we were discussed the outcome of this
program so far and the any improvements that could be made to the draft. My supervisor said that I should use
more author’s word but not own words as the quotations from papers are professional. I realize that the paraphrase
quotes can not exceed the original word in the paper, Secondly, my supervisor said that there may possibly be a
slight over-reliance on specific resources, and that I should bring other authors into references if two authors say
similar things.

Modifications I have made as a result of discussion with my supervisor (and specialist consultant if applicable) at
this final stage.
Do I need to do anything else to complete my project?
this was difficult for me to find out all the references because I forgot to save the detail of the passages I have
used. This was hard for mr because I used numerous of quotation which I need to find all the authors and published
date. This was a troublesome thing for me.

Please append any relevant planning documentation or tools that you have used.

Summary and reflection

To be completed by the candidate

This page records your summary, reflection and evaluation of your planning, the final outcome and your personal
learning. It should be written after you have completed your report and given your presentation.

Some questions you may wish to answer in this section include, what have I learned from completing
this project? What new knowledge or expertise have I enjoyed or found valuable? What are the
strengths and weaknesses of my project (including planning and organisation)? What skills have I im-
proved? What changes would I make if I undertook such work again? What advice would I give to
others undertaking such a project?
Throughout the process of completing my journey of epq I have learned a lot about the future
management of schools. Looking back my research journey, I’ve researched deeply into the various
papers and I’ve understanding numerous methods of regulating a school.

I especially enjoyed the process of independently researching a topic of considerable interest to me.
I believe the skills that I learn from epq will benefit my work at university, as I have a great under-
standing of how to take note, write essay and find reliable resources.

I believe that the major successes of my project have been the writing, planning and researching of
my paper. I’ve surly followed my plan before I started my article. My essay plan was very thorough
due to my detailed notes on all the relevant resources, and this made writing the report in the sum-
mer much more straightforward as it was only a case of translating and articulating the material in
the plan. These strengths will help me throughout my life, especially during university where I would
have to utilise these skills to succeed at a higher level of study.

However there are still some weakness during my journey of writing ipq. One example is that al-
though I generally planned my time well, I did over-ambitiously plan in some areas such as for the
Mid Project Review. Therefore I finally find out that the resources of my project can not hold my
points anymore as the point which I wanted to shown up was difficult and need more resources to
support. Although in the end I was able to find high quality resources, if I had left it any later I may
have slightly panicked and therefore not found many high-quality resources.

Moreover, I should more focusing on why I want to choose the topic and the main message that I
want to display at the beginning of my journey, so that I would not waste my time at the beginning
of my ipq.

The advise that I would give to future students is to focusing more on the initial
topic and to develop more on the context of paper and to research more reliable ev-
idence which can hold the points you want to indicated and show up your ability of
researching and understanding.
