NON-STRUCTURAL METAL FRAMING, ALSO KNOWN AS DRYWALL FRAMING, IS THINNER AND ONLY USED FOR
INTERIOR STUDS AND CANNOT BE USED ON LOAD BEARING WALLS.

1.3 DELIVERY AND STORAGE

A. DELIVER MATERIALS IN ORIGINAL PACKAGES, CONTAINERS, OR BUNDLES BEARING BRAND NAME AND
IDENTIFICATION OF MANUFACTURER OR SUPPLIER.
B. STORE MATERIALS INSIDE UNDER COVER AND KEEP THEM DRY AND PROTECTED AGAINST DAMAGE FROM
WEATHER, DIRECT SUNLIGHT, SURFACE CONTAMINATION, CORROSION, CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC, AND OTHER
CAUSES.

PART 3 – INSTALLATION

3.1. INSTALLING FRAMED ASSEMBLIES

A. INSTALL FRAMING SYSTEM COMPONENTS ACCORDING TO SPACINGS INDICATED, BUT NOT. GREATER THAN
SPACINGS REQUIRED BY REFERENCED INSTALLATION STANDARDS FOR ASSEMBLY TYPES.

1. METAL STUDS HORIZONTAL: SPACED @ 40 MM.

2. METAL STUDS VERTICAL: SPACED @ 60 MM.

B. INSTALL STUDS SO FLANGES WITHIN FRAMING SYSTEM POINT IN SAME DIRECTION.

C. INSTALL TRACKS (RUNNERS) ON FLOORS AND OVERHEAD SUPPORTS.

1. DOOR OPENINGS: SCREW VERTICAL STUDS AT JAMBS TO JAMB ANCHOR CLIPS ON DOOR FRAMES

A. INSTALL TWO STUDS AT EACH JAMB UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED.

2. OTHER FRAMED OPENINGS: FRAME OPENINGS OTHER THAN DOOR OPENINGS THE SAME AS REQUIRED FOR
DOOR OPENINGS UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED. THE INSTALL FRAMING BELOW SILLS OF OPENINGS TO
MATCH FRAMING REQUIRED ABOVE DOOR HEADS.

D. DIRECT FURRING:

1. SCREW TO WOOD FRAMING.

2. ATTACH TO CONCRETE OR MASONRY WITH 1” CONCRETE NAILS, SCREWS DESIGNED FOR MASONRY
ATTACHMENT.

3. METAL FRAMING CONNECTION, RIVET ON BOTH SIDES.


3.3 CLEANING AND PROTECTION

A. CLEAN FLOORS OF ALL NON-STRUCTURAL METAL FRAMING DEBRIS AND LEAVE BROOM CLEAN. EXCESS
MATERIAL, SCAFFOLDING, TOOLS, AND OTHER EQUIPMENT ARE TO BE REMOVED UPON COMPLETION OF THE
WORK.

B. PROVIDE FINAL PROTECTION AND MAINTAIN CONDITIONS THAT ENSURE NON-STRUCTURAL METAL FRAMING
WORK REMAINS WITHOUT DAMAGE OR DETERIORATION AT TIME OF SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION.

B. EXAMINE PANELS BEFORE INSTALLATION. REJECT PANELS THAT ARE WET, MOISTURE DAMAGED, AND MOLD
DAMAGED.

C. PROCEED WITH INSTALLATION ONLY AFTER UNSATISFACTORY CONDITIONS HAVE BEEN CORRECTED.

3.2 APPLYING INTERIOR GYPSUM BOARD

A. SINGLE-LAYER APPLICATION:

1. ON PARTITIONS/WALLS, APPLY GYPSUM PANELS HORIZONTALLY (PERPENDICULAR TO FRAMING).

2. STAGGER ABUTTING END JOINTS NOT LESS THAN ONE FRAMING MEMBER IN ALTERNATE COURSES OF PANELS.

3. ON C-SHAPED FURRING MEMBERS, APPLY GYPSUM PANELS VERTICALLY (PARALLEL TO FRAMING) WITH NO END
JOINTS. LOCATE EDGE JOINTS OVER FURRING MEMBERS.

4. FASTENING METHODS: APPLY GYPSUM PANELS TO SUPPORTS WITH STEEL DRILL SCREWS.
3.3 FINISHING GYPSUM BOARD

A. GENERAL: TREAT GYPSUM BOARD JOINTS, INTERIOR ANGLES, EDGE TRIM, CONTROL JOINTS, PENETRATIONS,
FASTENER HEADS, SURFACE DEFECTS, AND ELSEWHERE AS REQUIRED TO PREPARE GYPSUM BOARD SURFACES
FOR DECORATION. PROMPTLY REMOVE RESIDUAL JOINT COMPOUND FROM ADJACENT SURFACES.

B. PREFILL OPEN JOINTS AND DAMAGED SURFACE AREAS.

C. APPLY JOINT TAPE OVER GYPSUM BOARD JOINTS, EXCEPT FOR TRIM PRODUCTS SPECIFICALLY INDICATED AS
NOT INTENDED TO RECEIVE TAPE.

3.4 PROTECTION

A. PROTECT ADJACENT SURFACES FROM DRYWALL COMPOUND AND PROMPTLY REMOVE FROM FLOORS AND
OTHER NON-DRYWALL SURFACES. REPAIR SURFACES STAINED, MARRED, OR OTHERWISE DAMAGED DURING
DRYWALL APPLICATION.

B. PROTECT INSTALLED PRODUCTS FROM DAMAGE FROM WEATHER, CONDENSATION, DIRECT SUNLIGHT,
CONSTRUCTION, AND OTHER CAUSES DURING REMAINDER OF THE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD.

C. REMOVE AND REPLACE PANELS THAT ARE WET, MOISTURE DAMAGED, AND MOLD DAMAGED.

3.1 INSPECTION

A. INSPECT OPENINGS BEFORE INSTALLATION. VERIFY THAT ROUGH OR MASONRY OPENING IS CORRECT
AND SILL PLATE IS LEVEL. MASONRY SURFACES SHALL BE VISIBLY DRY AND FREE OF EXCESS MORTAR,
SAND, AND OTHER CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. INSTALL ALUMINUM WINDOW FRAME, TRUE TO LINE, ANCHORED SECURELY IN PLACE TO STRUCTURAL
SUPPORT, AND IN PROPER RELATION TO WALL FLASHING AND OTHER ADJACENT CONSTRUCTION TO
PRODUCE WEATHERTIGHT CONSTRUCTION.

1. SEPARATE ALUMINUM AND OTHER CORRODIBLE SURFACES FROM SOURCES OF CORROSION


OR ELECTROLYTIC ACTION AT POINTS OF CONTACT WITH OTHER MATERIALS.

B. SET WINDOW GLASS, LEVEL, AND TRUE TO. PROVIDE PROPER SUPPORT AND ANCHOR SECURELY IN
PLACE.

C. SET OTHER MEMBERS IN A BED OF SEALANT OR WITH JOINT FILLERS OR GASKETS, TO BE INSTALLED
CONCURRENTLY WITH WINDOW UNITS.

3.5 CLEANING

A. CLEAN ALUMINUM SURFACES PROMPTLY AFTER INSTALLING WINDOWS. EXERCISE CARE TO AVOID
DAMAGE TO PROTECTIVE COATINGS AND FINISHES. REMOVE EXCESS GLAZING AND SEALANT
COMPOUNDS, DIRT, AND OTHER SUBSTANCES. LUBRICATE HARDWARE AND OTHER MOVING PARTS.

3.6 PROTECTION

A. PROVIDE FINAL PROTECTION AND MAINTAIN CONDITIONS, IN A MANNER ACCEPTABLE TO ALUMINUM


WINDOW MANUFACTURER, THAT ENSURE WINDOW UNITS ARE WITHOUT DAMAGE OR DETERIORATION AT
THE TIME OF SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION.

AND THEIR SUPERVISOR SHALL BE PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED IN SUSPENDED ACOUSTICAL CEILING
INSTALLATION AND SHALL HAVE BEEN REGULARLY EMPLOYED BY A COMPANY INSTALLING SYSTEMS FOR A
MINIMUM OF 2 YEARS.

B. SURFACE BURNING CHARACTERISTICS: TESTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM E 84 AND COMPLYING WITH

C. TILE INSTALLATION:

- USE A LEVEL TO CHECK EACH TILE'S ALIGNMENT AND LEVELNESS, THEN MAKE ANY REQUIRED
ADJUSTMENTS.
- KEEP PUTTING IN TILES IN PARTS, STARTING IN THE CENTER AND MOVING OUTWARD WHILE
KEEPING THE SAME DISTANCES BETWEEN THEM AND THEIR ALIGNMENT.
- TRIM TILES USING A TILE CUTTER AS NECESSARY TO FIT ALONG EDGES OR AROUND
IMPEDIMENTS.

D. GROUTING:
- REMOVE THE TILE SPACERS AND CLEAN THE TILE SURFACES TO GET RID OF ANY EXTRA GLUE
AFTER THE ADHESIVE HAS DRIED.
- USING A GROUT FLOAT, APPLY THE GROUT TO THE TILE JOINTS AFTER MIXING IT TO THE
APPROPRIATE CONSISTENCY, MAKING SURE TO FILL IN ALL SPACES AND PROVIDE COMPLETE
COVERAGE.
- TO REMOVE EXTRA GROUT FROM THE TILE SURFACES, WORK DIAGONALLY OVER THE TILES
WITH A DAMP SPONGE SO AS NOT TO DAMAGE THE GROUT LINES.

E. FINISHING:
- IF THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTS IT, USE A TILE SEALER TO PRESERVE THE GROUT AND
TILE SURFACES ONCE IT HAS COMPLETELY DRIED.
- THOROUGHLY CLEAN THE TILED FLOOR TO GET RID OF ANY LAST BITS OF DIRT OR RESIDUE.

F. QUALITY CONTROL:
- INSPECT THE ADHERENCE, ALIGNMENT, AND LEVELNESS OF THE INSTALLED TILES.
- EXAMINE THE TILES FOR ANY CHIPS OR CRACKS, AND REPLACE THEM AS NEEDED.
- MAKE SURE THE GROUT LINES ARE EVEN, SEAMLESS, AND DEVOID OF ANY IMPERFECTIONS.

G. DOCUMENTATION:
- KEEP RECORDS OF THE MATERIALS USED, THE INSTALLATION TECHNIQUES UTILIZED, AND
ANY TIMES THE USERS DEVIATED FROM THE GUIDELINES.
