Battery Deep Discharge Event


Description:

A battery deep discharge event is logged when the battery State of Charge* (SoC) is at 0% and battery voltage
is less than 20V.
During normal use of the vehicle, before a deep discharge event is logged, the driver will get warnings about
battery SoC level low and critical in the cluster.
The goal is to know if the driver often reaches the critical alert and continues to discharge until a level that can
irreversibly damage the batteries.
Only the first event of the day is logged.
“Occurrences” represents the total number of events since last battery reset.

Potential root causes:

Battery SoC level low and critical warnings have been ignored and recommended actions have not been
followed.
Too high power consumption in non-driving mode. (i.e. IPC, parking heater, fridge, lights, entertainment and
body builder functions).
Driving cycles too short to charge the batteries to a level that covers power consumption in non-driving modes.

Alternator capacity not compliant with driving cycles.

* State of Charge - defines the batteries available charge capacity, expressed in percentage.

Battery State of Health Alert Event


Description:

A battery State of Health* (SoH) alert event is logged when the battery capacity reaches 50%. This means that
the battery capacity can only reach 50% of original capacity.
Only the first event of the day is logged.
“Occurrences” represents the total number of events since last battery reset.

Potential root causes:

Battery State of Charge** (SoC) has repetedly been below 50%.


Battery SoC level low and critical warnings have been ignored and recommended actions have not been
followed.
Too high power consumption in non-driving mode. (i.e. IPC, parking heater, fridge, lights, entertainment and
body builder functions).
Driving cycles too short to charge the batteries to a level that covers power consumption in non-driving modes.
Alternator capacity not compliant with driving cycles.

* State of Health - defines the batteries performance compared to its specified performance. I.e. the present active
volume compared to specified volume, expressed in percentage.
** State of Charge - defines the batteries available charge capacity, expressed in percentage.

External Charger Wrong Usage Event


Description:

An external charger wrong usage event is logged when:

Battery voltage is higher than 27,5V and the battery sensor does not read any charge current for more than 1
hour.
Battery voltage is higher than 31V for more than 10 minutes.
Only the first event of the day is logged.
“Occurrences” represents the total number of events since last battery reset.

Potential root causes:

The external battery charger is connected in a way that the battery sensor detects decreasing current, when it
should be increasing. The battery charger needs to be connected to the chassis ground or the ground cable and
not directly to the battery pole where the battery sensor is connected..
The external battery charger provides a voltage level that is too high.
Faulty charger and/or charger cables.

Battery End of Charge Event

A battery End of Charge event is logged when the battery State of Charge* (SoC) reaches 100%.
A battery End of Charge event can only be logged when the batteries are charged by the alternators.
Only the first event of the day is logged.
“Occurrences” represents the total number of events since last battery reset.

Consequences:

Run time is sufficient to allow the alternator to fully charge the batteries.
By reaching End of Charge, the batteries have been charged as much as possible by the alternator.
In order to top charge the batteries >90%, the use of an external charger is needed.

* State of Charge - defines the batteries available charge capacity, expressed in percentage.

Battery State of Charge Warning Event (Standard Batteries)


* It is logged data for only the 24 V single battery pack system.

Description:

A battery State of Charge* (SoC) level low event is logged when the battery charge level is at 45%.
At this level there is a risk for premature battery ageing.
Only the first event of the day is logged.
“Occurrences” represents the total number of events since last battery reset.

Potential root causes:

Too high power consumption in non-driving mode. (i.e. IPC, parking heater, fridge, lights, entertainment and
body builder functions)
Driving cycles too short to charge the batteries to a level that covers power consumption in non-driving modes.
Alternator capacity not compliant with driving cycles.

*State of Charge - defines the batteries available charge capacity, expressed in percentage.

Battery State of Charge Warning Event (GEL-DESS)


Description:

A battery State of Charge* (SoC) level low event is logged when the battery charge level is at 30%.
At this level there is a risk for premature battery ageing.
Only the first event of the day is logged.
“Occurrences” represents the total number of events since last battery reset.

Potential root causes:

Too high power consumption in non-driving mode. (i.e. IPC, parking heater, fridge, lights, entertainment and
body builder functions)
Driving cycles too short to charge the batteries to a level that covers power consumption in non-driving modes.
Alternator capacity not compliant with driving cycles.

A battery State of Charge* (SoC) critical alert event is logged when the battery charge level is at 13 - 26%.
At this level the batteries will degrade and the battery capacity will decrease.
At this level the start ability is at risk.
Only the first event of the day is logged.
“Occurrences” represents the total number of events since last battery reset.

Potential root causes:

Battery State of Charge level low warnings have been ignored and recommended actions have not been
followed.
Too high power consumption in non-driving mode. (i.e. IPC, parking heater, fridge, lights, entertainment and

Description:

The State of Charge* (SoC) histogram presents a view of the time (hours) spent in different SoC intervals.

Consequences:

Time spent between 0-20% will heavily degrade the batteries and the battery capacity will decrease.
Time spent between 20-40% will degrade the batteries and the battery capacity will decrease.
Time spent between 40-60% will potentially degrade the batteries and battery capacity.
Levels above 60% will maximize battery capacity.
