12. Read the text and answer the true or false questions below: [5pts]
A habitat is where living things are found, including plants and animals. A habitat can
be large or small. It can be an entire continent, or the space under a rock.
Habitats contain many different kinds of living things together, as well as the
non-living things that exist in the habitat. A person's bed is not a living thing, but it is
part of their habitat.
There are lots of different habitats in the world. A grassland is full of tall grass and
has very few trees. Sometimes grasslands are also called prairies, or if they need less
rain they are called a savanna.
A desert is very dry, has lots of sunshine, gets less than 6 inches of rain a year, and
has very few plants. Deserts can be hot or cold.
A rainforest receives rain all year long, and a seasonal forest has a rainy season and a
dry season. There are more animals living in these forests than all of the other
habitats put together.
As you can see, there are habitats all over the world. Remember, a habitat can be
located under a rock as a home for a worm; or it can be the huge ocean, a home for a
whale.
Habitats only contain living things. TRUE FALSE
A savanna is a grassland that doesn’t need much rain. TRUE FALSE
Deserts have less than 6 inches of rain each year. TRUE FALSE
All forests have a rainy season and a dry season. TRUE FALSE
