Where Are We Going?
Scene 1: The Busy Crossroads
(Lights up. Sounds of a busy town — people talking, laughing, music playing lightly. A
crossroads set up with signs: "Success Road," "Pleasure Avenue," "Heaven's Path.")
[Characters on stage: Extras acting as townspeople, Sam, Chris, Ruth, Mrs. Hope, Narrator
(voice only).]
(Sam and Chris stand laughing near the "Success Road" sign. Ruth approaches.)
Chris: (laughing loudly) - Man, after this semester bro, I’m OUTTA here! Big city life, fancy
cars — the whole deal!
Sam: (grinning) - Bro, you and me both! You thinking small. I’m thinking big business, big
bucks, big everything.
Chris: (fist-bumps Sam) - And church? Church can wait till we’re like... 90 or something.
(the two begins to laugh)
Ruth: (walking up, holding a small Bible and priorities) - Hey, guys. I was looking for alyuh.
(pauses) We’re having AY later... yuh should come.
Sam: (playfully) - Aww, Ruth, you’re sweet. But come on — Sabbath afternoon? That’s
prime chill time!
Chris: (mocking) - Yeah, Ruthie... We got dreams, girl. Big dreams! Bigger than your little
church group.
Ruth: (serious tone) - Dreams fade, but the salvation of yuh soul, that last forever. (quietly)
Where are you really going?
(The boys laugh it off. Mrs. Hope, an elderly woman, comes by slowly, handing out tracts.)
Mrs. Hope: (gently) - Here, dear ones. (hands them small tracts that say, “Where Are You
Going?”) Don’t lose your way while chasing shadows.
(Sam looks at it briefly, smirks, and crumples it. Chris tosses his over his shoulder. Ruth takes
hers and holds it against her chest.)
Sam: (laughs) - Thanks, Granny, but I know exactly where I’m going — straight to the top!
Chris: (mocking voice) Yeah — Heaven can wait!
(Extras around them are busy: shopping, taking selfies, arguing, gossiping — but nobody is
paying attention to Mrs. Hope or the tracts.)
(Mrs. Hope looks up, sadness in her eyes, then slowly exits.)
Ruth: (calls after her) - Thank you, Sis. Hope. Doh worry, I’ll read it.
(Sam and Chris wave Ruth off and walk away, dabbing each other.)
(Lights dim a little, Narrator enters)
Narrator: (serious tone) - There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end
thereof are the ways of death
(Proverbs 14:12)
(Stage fades to black.)
Scene Transition:
(Soft instrumental music Softly and Tenderly without words.)
Scene 2: The Dream: Temptations and Judgment
(Lights up slowly. Sam is now sitting on a bench." He yawns, leans back, and falls asleep.)
Act One: Temptations
(Whisperers (extras) sneak onstage, circling Sam. They each hold symbolic items — fake
money, phone, diploma, etc.)
Whisperers (soft chant, overlapping):
Person 1: More money
Person 2: More fame,
Person 3: You have time
Person 4: God is for later
Person 5: So the badness goes
Sam: (uneasy) - What... what is this? Who’s there?
Person 1: (tempting, holding some money) - You’ll be rich! Just one more deal, one more
step...
Person 2: (tempting, holding a phone showing social media) - Fame! Followers! Don’t waste
your time.
Person 3: Success first. God later. (Sam reaches out confusedly toward the diploma — then
stumbles back.)
Sam: (yelling) - Stop! Leave me alone!
(Suddenly, a bright light shines. The Angel steps forward majestically.)
Angel: (commanding, powerful) - Sam! Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and
broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because
strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Sam: (afraid, shaking) - But... but it’s hard! Everyone’s on the wide road!
Angel: (sadly) - Many walk it. Few find life. (Points toward "Heaven’s Path" sign glowing
dimly at the back of the stage.) Come now... before it’s too late.
(Whisperers hiss and vanish, disappearing backstage.)
Act 2: False Peace
(Scene shifts. Sam looks around. Suddenly, people (extras) rush to him, handing him awards,
cash, fake trophies.)
Chris: (dream-version, wearing sunglasses, laughing) - See, bro? Told you — you made it!
No need for all that religious stuff!
Sam: (confused but smiling) - Yeah... I guess... I did it, huh?
(They laugh. Sam holds up trophies proudly. Suddenly, the awards start crumbling to dust in
his hands. Clock prop appears behind him, ticking loudly.)
Sam: (frantic) - Wait what’s happening?!
(Extras around him freeze like statues. Laughter turns to whispering again.)
Whisperers (soft, sinister):
Person 1: Too late
Person 2: Too late for you
Person 3: Where were you going?
(Stage starts shaking slightly. The clock ticks louder. Sam covers his ears.)
Act 3: Judgment Scene
(Lights focus on a "Throne" set center stage. Bright white lighting. An actor portraying Jesus
sits calmly. Angel stands holding the Book of Life.)
(Sam stumbles forward.)
Jesus: (booming voice) - The Book of Life is opened! Is Sam’s name found?
(Jesus looks at the Angel.)
Angel: (sadly) - No, Lord. His heart loved the world.
Sam: (Sam falls to his knees, hands raised, desperately) - No! Please! I meant to change! I
was going to get serious... later!
Jesus: (soft but firm) - Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the
kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. (Matthew
7:21)
(Thunder rumble sound.)
Jesus: (voice full of sorrow) - Depart from Me. I never knew you.
Person 1: Too late
Person 2: Too late for you
Person 3: Where were you going?
(Whisperers reappear, grab Sam by the arms, dragging him backward toward the darkness.)
Sam: (screaming) - NOOO! Give me another chance! Please!
Jesus: (fading voice) - Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the
provocation. (Hebrews 3:15) (Blackout.)
(Sam gasps and sits bolt upright on the bench — awake, terrified, breathing heavily. He
clutches the crumpled tract in his hands.) (Lights fade out)
Scene 3: The Invitation
(Lights come up softly. Morning light effect. Sam stands alone at the crossroads again,
holding the crumpled tract. The crowd from earlier — townspeople, extras — bustle around
him as before, but now Sam looks... different. Troubled. Searching.)
(Background sound: low murmur of busy streets.)
Sam: (to himself, low voice) - Where... where am I even going? (looks at the tract) I thought
I knew. I thought... I had time.
(Chris walks in, eating chips, carefree.)
Chris: (grinning) - Yo, Sammy-boy! You good, bro? You look like you seen a ghost!
Sam: (half-hearted smile) - I had... a bad dream.
Chris: (laughs it off) - Man, you think too much! Come on, there’s a party at Mitch’s later.
(waves his phone) Free food, girls and everything — no boring church talk!
Sam: (hesitates, struggles inside) - I... I don’t know, man. (more serious) Chris, don’t you
ever wonder... where we’re headed?
Chris: (shrugs) - Headed? Straight to the top, bro! (laughs) You still trippin’ over dah dream?
Sam: (softly) It wasn’t just a dream.
(Ruth enters from side stage, holding her Bible and another small invitation flyer. She sees
Sam.)
Ruth: (bright but gentle) - Hey, Sam. (smiles) You’re invited. We're having an AY program
today. (hands him the flyer) It’s called “The Final Call.”
Sam: (stares at the flyer for a moment, heart pounding) - When... when is it?
Ruth: (softly) - Now. Just down the road. You’re welcome to come. No pressure. Just... come
as you are.
Chris: (laughing, nudges Sam) - Come on, man. You really going Tuh waste your afternoon
singing Kumbaya? Kumbaya meh Lord Kumbaya (laughs)
(Pause. Sam looks between Chris and Ruth. The "Success Road" and "Heaven’s Path" signs
behind them seem to glow faintly — "Success" flashing like neon, "Heaven’s Path" glowing
steady and pure.)
Sam: (swallowing hard) I think, (louder) - I think I need to go.
Chris: (mocking) - Pfft! Whatever, man. I'm heading to the party. You have fun with your
little choir practice.
(Chris walks offstage, laughing. Townspeople follow him, Ruth stands quietly beside Sam.)
Ruth: (softly) - Sometimes... the quiet road is the right one.
(Sam nods slowly. He and Ruth exit together toward a side stage marked "Heaven’s Path.")
(Music begins to play soft piano)
(Narrator enters)
Narrator: And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will
serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or
the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve
the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)
(Lights fade to black.)
Scene 4: The Final Choice
(Lights up. Stage is simple — a small church setup. Maybe a wooden cross at the back, some
chairs. People (extras) sitting quietly, praying, waiting. Soft background of a hymn
instrumental.)
(Ruth and Sam enter quietly and sit at the back.)
Preacher: (warm, inviting tone) - Young people... God is calling. Not tomorrow. Not next
week. Today. For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation
have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation
(2 Corinthians 6:2)
(Sam shifts in his seat, emotional.)
Preacher: Maybe you think you have plenty of time. Maybe you plan to serve God... later.
But later is not promised. Where are you going? Where is your heart taking you right now?
(Soft background music builds: tender, pulling at the heart.) The doors of mercy are open
now. Jesus is calling your name. Will you answer?
(Pause. Silence on stage. Sam clutches the tract tighter. Ruth places a gentle hand on his
shoulder, encouraging him. Sam stands slowly. Walks to the front of the church. Kneels.
Other extras — some youth — follow, kneeling beside him.)
Preacher (Prayer): (earnest) - Lord, here we are. We have run, we have been distracted, but
today — we choose You. Take our hearts. Make them new. Lead us home. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
(Soft "Amen" echoes from the crowd. Sam looks up, tears in his eyes but smiling — peace
for the first time. Lights brighten slightly — golden, warm — as if Heaven itself is smiling.
Ruth smiles at him, nodding.)
(Lights fade out gently.)
(Narrator enters)
Narrator: Each day, we are walking a road. A road that leads either to life... or to loss.
Jesus stands at the crossroads, calling us home. Where are you going? Tonight, choose Him.
Tomorrow is never promised — but His love is promised forever."
