ORGANISATION BACKGROUND
The organization is well performed in Bungoma County – Bungoma town. Organization is made
to deal with building works and plumbing services only. The organization mostly relies on tools
and equipment’s that mostly laborer’s come along with. The organization had few laborer’s who
are not secured with protective gears e.g. gumboots, helmets, apron or dust coats, reflectors and
gloves. The organization had not good forums of salary payment as most laborer’s are
overworked and underpaid.

6
DESCRIPTION OF DAILY ACTIVITIES

SITE VISIT
I visited the site after my enrollment to the place of attachment. I found some work already done
e.g. hoarding, fencing, clearance, demolition of old structures. Setting out was already done by a
hired contractor and supervisor plus those who assign to work. I found steel fixing going on for
the first floor slab.

7
STEEL FIXING
I square base bars. It contains different sizes of bars e.g. T20, T16, T8, T25. The square bars had
a measurement of 2500 by 2500 with hook of depth 160mm.

HOW TO FIX IT
Binding was done on the mat. Square bars were placed on it with spacer to give accurately
covering concrete.

8
MIXING OF CONCRETE

CASTING OF 1ST FLOOR SLAB

A mixer machine was used to mix concrete well like class 25, water cement ratio was 0.5 or 0.4.
Clean water was always used. Crushed aggregate of irregular shape is required of size 20mm.
curing was done at least seven days or three weeks for concrete reinforcement to gain required
strength.

9
WALLING
Blocks of 9 by 6 were used for the partition of inside the room’s while the 9 by 9 were used for
external walling.

Instruments/ Equipment’s like the plumb bob, hoarse pipe was used to check the straightness of
the wall.

10
PLASTERING
Plastering was done to the walls. The ratio of cement to sand was 1:3. Molding for beams,
columns, windows and doors was done accurately.

11
PURPOSE OF ATTACHMENT
The main reason was to acquire newly knowledge with expectations of working in a highly
competitive environment. To get any opportunity to apply the knowledge I gained from class
into a real-life situation. To enhance students, contact for job and equipment with practical skills
that may not be appreciated in school such as dress code and team work, time management and
efficient problem management.

To insured a group of function and financial role in meeting the objectives of the organization.
To link and relate the theoretical to practical application in the new job market.

12
CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED
Securing a place for attachment posed a major challenge as organization failed to respond
attachment request. Little time was available to secure place of attachment. Insufficient funds to
meet my daily needs such as transportation cost, personal needs and also basic needs.

Lack of security at the working place e.g. stealing, corruption, low wedges, more working hours,
lack of unity and knowledge to handle laborer.

13
RESOLUTION TO THE CHALLENGES
Institution must look the way or measure to secure place of attachment, also to put enough time
for a student to acquire their skills and knowledge.

The organization of work must put enough security to safeguard our tools equipment and our
protective gear. Some laborer must know how to share experience and knowledge they have and
also to respond positively while working with a student.

The organization of work must consider working time, to give workers enough time to rest, also
supervisors and contractors must provide incentives to upkeep them with motivation.

14
FINDINGS
During the attachment period I learned new ideas that would enable me to generate new ideas in
new technology to improve my confidence and workability as engineer.

It enabled me to know the mixing ratio of cement, water ratio and also ratio to mix paste
concrete of different classes like C20, C25, and others.

It also enabled me to know the compaction of vibrator should not extent too much or too less
which may course pulverization of concrete. Asbestos material and prohibited as footing
materials because are harmful. it enables me know the cost determination and material
approximation.

15
RECOMMENDATIONS
Student going for attachment should be exposed to all areas of study to acquire necessary skills,
knowledge in the field for better professional performance.

The supervisor accorded to student to assist them in practical studies should ensure that the
student acquire all right skills. All instructions should ensure that students in attachment are
gaining right skills by sending assessors where attachment is taking place several times. To give
them moral support and motivation.

The institution must ensure financial support to students undertaking attachments. The students
need to make any attempt in increasing amount of time in attachment to prepare for programs.

16
CONCLUTION
A lot of practical must not taught in class, the industrial training attachment provide an
opportunity for students to exercise their kind of skills. It provides a forum for students to
venture his or her interest in the career being undertaken and also equipped them with work
experience in highly competitive environment. As student I was able to gain valuable practical
training experience work in a comfortable environment with terrific people and networking with
people of different classes.

I managed to increase my knowledge and skills in both area of study and the business world
despite the challenges that I faced. Apart from skills, self-motivated, efficiency in problem
solving and well achieved I grew more interest in problem solving and being submissive to
supervisor as result my objective were met and well achieved. I grew more interest in my choice
of career as well as relate what I was taught in school and what I learned in the outside world.
The training program should therefore be maintained for all students as this has been a rewarding
experience for me.
