1. a) All the fourteen nuns in the convent summoned to the office and it
was found out that three quarters of them were pregnant.
i) Identify and classify the types of determiners in the sentence.

II) Explain the concept of determiners in the English language.

b) Describe the syntactic functions of the adjectives in the following


sentences.
i) The bold girl is here. (4 marks)
ii) Tom is handsome. (4 marks)

2. Using examples, explain the concepts ‘Tense’ and ‘mood’ in the


English Verb phrase. (20 marks)
3. Using examples, explain the concepts ‘Case’ and ‘Gender’ in the
English Noun phrase. (20 marks)
4. Explain the use of adverbs as Conjuncts and Disjuncts (20 marks)

5. a) Draw tree diagrams to represent the sentences below. (10 marks)
