                               IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
F Do not open the Question Booklet before 10:00 a.m. in the Examination Hall.
F Read the questions carefully before marking the right answer with blue/black ballpoint pen only
in the appropriate circle of the OMR Answer-Sheet, as firstly there is provision of negative
marking of ½ mark per question for wrong answer, and secondly no extra OMR Answer-Sheet
will be provided for any mistake or correction.
F In cases where candidate selects more than one option of a question, the question will not be
      evaluated.
F In case of use of Non-Standard OMR Answer-Sheet, the candidate must properly write his/her
Roll No., Question Booklet Serial No., Question Booklet Code in the space provided in the OMR

F Candidates will have to sign twice, once in the Photo Attendance Sheet presented by the Invigilator
on duty after taking their seats in the Examination Hall, and the other, at the time of handing over
their OMR Answer-Sheet to the Invigilator after the completion of the Examination. Cases where a
candidate has not signed while submitting the OMR Answer-Sheet, he/she shall be treated as absent.

      ‘A’ in the OMR Answer-Sheet.
F Candidate should do all the necessary rough work on the Question Booklet in the space provided.
Rough work should not be done on the OMR Answer-Sheet or on any other paper. If any rough work or
overwriting is done or whitener is used on the OMR Answer-Sheet, the OMR Answer-Sheet will not be
      assessed.
F In case of any discrepancy or confusion in the medium/version of the questions, the English
version will be treated as the authentic version.

Direction : Each of the questions (Question Nos. 40 to 45) is based on the passage given below.
The questions are to be answered on the basis of what is stated or implied in the passage. Choose
the most appropriate response that accurately and completely answers the question.
Lionel Messi could not believe it. Frankly, few could. Against the US four days ago, his divine left
foot had made the ball overcome a wall of defenders and curl and dip past a diving goalkeeper to
magically settle in the top left corner of the goal. It was not as much a free kick from 25 yards, but
a laser-guided missile. On Sunday night, in the penalty shootout of the Copa America final against
Chile, he hit it over from less than half that distance with nothing but the thick New Jersey air to
beat. The resultant 4–2 loss meant Argentina’s title drought, dating back to 1993, would continue.
It also ensured that Messi, one of the most decorated club footballers of all time, would not get that
one trophy with the national team he so covets. It will remain that way as Messi, later, announced
his retirement from international football.
His teammates have said it was a heat-of-the-moment decision and he would reconsider. Messi’s
unhappiness with the Argentine Federation, which is teetering on the brink of collapse, may also
have influenced his decision. Therefore, a return to sky blue-and-white, with the World Cup just
two years away, cannot be implausible. Nevertheless, if Sunday was his final appearance for
Albiceleste, what legacy does he leave behind? It is easy to brand him as an underachiever, given
his 28–0 club vs. country record at the senior level. But the picture is more complex. For one,
modern-day football has very limited scope for independent, individual flair. Two, what that
number does not show is both as a player and a captain, Messi has been instrumental in Argentina
making it to three major finals in the last two years, including the 2014 World Cup.
What remains unquestionable is Messi’s unimpeachable genius. His unparalleled vision, deft
touch, and nimble footwork have often proved to be the lifeline of his teams, be it at Barcelona or
Argentina. Yes, he may have missed that crucial penalty, but it is important to remember that
football is a team sport. It is equally about collective endeavour as it is about individual brilliance.
Clearly, the margin between an underachiever and a GOAT is very, very slim. It, therefore, depends
on how you want to remember Messi : Through his last miss or his last hit, that free kick.
 40. What does the author mean to say when he comments, “Lionel Messi could not believe it”?
      (A) Lionel Messi could not believe that he could not score a goal of a free kick during the
          penalty shootout
      (B) Lionel Messi could not believe that he had overcome a wall of defenders to score a goal
          from 25 yards

          goals like a missile
      (D) Lionel Messi could not believe the ball that he kicked curved and settled in the top left
          corner of the goal
 41. When Messi missed the penalty shot, what result did that ensure?
