Presentation software

Is software used to create a sequence of text and graphics, and often audio
and video, to accompany a speech or public presentation.
Examples of presentation software
 Slide rocket
 Microsoft power point
 Slide share
 Slide effects
 K-presenter
 Prezi.
 Google Slides.
 Slidebean.
 Keynote.
 etc
Functions of the following views as used in presentation software
i) Outline view
Enables one to edit and display all presentation texts in one location
ii) Slide sorter view
Is a view where you see all the slides of a presentation at once
It is good for arranging and organizing your slides
iii) Notes pages view
- A view where you can type or edit texts for the currently selected slides

Terms used in presentation software


-Slide
Is an individual page in a presentation software
-Place holder
Is a rectangular dotted box that holds content on a slide
-Action button
Is an auto shape that is hyperlinked to enable linking of slides in a defined way
by clicking on to it
- Auto content wizard
Is a presentation design wizard with templates and ideas for a variety of presentation
types that one can choose from to edit and create a customized presentation

-Slide show
Refers to the display of slides in a sequence moving from one slide to another
-Slide sorter
This is a display where slides appear in a form so that you can easily rearrange them
(easy manipulation)
-Slide lay out
Refers to single slide (format and design)
- Slide show
It displays one’s slide in sequence, moving from one slide to another, transitioning
(changing) with special effects that one has set u, and moving at the present timing that
one can control

Explain the following terms as used in a slide show


-Transitional effect
These are different styles in which slides come and leave the screen during
presentation. It also includes timing, mouse click, transitions sound effects etc.
-Timing
This is where options are given and you set the speed at which transition effects run.
Here, options are set i.e. slow, medium, fast.
-Transition looping
Is the changing of one slide to another
How you would create a transitional loop?
Slides made-slide show-menu-transition sub menu-transition.
-Windows-select timing-select timing -select condition-loop until escape key is
presented
-master lay out
This is a term used/ applied to a presentation overall design
Function of a slide master
It stores all the default attributes that you may wish to apply to slides including text
formatting and positioning, background and standard graphics such as your company
logo

Principles that should be followed when designing a good electronic presentation
 Make your text large enough
 Keep it simplei.e. use one or two appropriate colours
 When using pictures, use one or two appropriate pictures
 When using sounds, make sure that the sounds are not so loud
 When using colours, use those that can work well with the screen
 When using backgrounds, apply those that can help you to focus on what
you are convening
c) State any two considerations for good presentation software
 Minimal effects
 Simple background
 Use of relevant graphics
 Each slide to hold a simple topic
 Should not disrupt the attention of the audience
 Well regulated font size, font colour etc
 No clash between background and text colour
 Graphics have to be well positioned on a slide
 Use universal (common) font types and style to avoid font substitution
Difference between a slide and a handout mode printing
A slide mode prints each slide on a single piece of paper
While Hand out mode is where many slides are printed on a single piece of paper

Question one
You are the district technology officer of your district, by using presentation software; design a presentation on
effective use of ICT.
Your presentation should include
a) Slide I- The introduction
Slide ii-advantage of ICT to society
Slide iii Problems/ challenges of ICT
b) Each slide should have;
- Font size 38 for the title
- Font colour blue for the title and black for the content
- An appropriate clipart at the top right corner of the slide
c) Insert your name as footer, a date that should be updated automatically.
d) Set your slides to run automatically after 05 seconds
f) Save your presentation as “your names” in a folder on your desktop
Question two
Assuming you have been selected to make a presentation in one of the workshops for computer students gathered
from selected schools in Eastern region;
(a) Prepare a five-slide presentation on the topic "Computer Networks".
(i) Slide1: should contain the presenters name and index number.
(ii) Slide2: should contain the definition of Computer Networks.
(iii) Slide3: should contain major types of Computer Networks.
(iv) Slide4: should contain four requirements for setting up computer Network.
(v) Slide5: should contain three ways of maintenance for computer Networks.

(b) Using master slide


- Apply a animation to all your slides.
- Format the slide titles to font size 46.5
- Format the body text to size 35, Colour red
- Format the background for all slides to any color of your choice
(c) Insert any appropriate image/picture on slide two:
(d) Insert action buttons on each slide.
(e) Save your work as your name in the folder you created in the desktop.

Question three
You have been tasked to give a presentation to workers about computer viruses
i) Slide1. Create a power point presentation with the main title being computer viruses as the first slide
ii) Slide2. Signs and symptoms of an infected computer
iii) Slide3. Effects of computer viruses
iv) Slide4. How computer viruses can be prevented

-Include different themes to each slide


-add different animations to different slides
-Save your work as computer viruses
