THE RISING CYBER
THREAT LANDSCAPE
IN INDIA
India has emerged as a global leader in the digital
landscape, with a staggering 936 million Internet
subscribers (Till Dec 2023, TRAI), transforming it into
one of the largest connected nations worldwide.
Termed as 'Digital Nagriks', Indians are increasingly
integrating the internet into their daily lives, relying
on it for essential needs such as business
transactions, education, financial activities, and
accessing government services digitally.
Although this Digitalization has made things
much more convenient and accessible, it also
puts us at a bigger risk of Cyber Attacks and
Data Breaches. Recently, the frequency of
these has increased, the figures being:
13.91 lakh cybersecurity incidents reported
to CERT-In in 2022
78% increase in ransomware attacks on
Indian enterprises (2021-2023)
Top Targets:
BFSI sector (35% of attacks)
Healthcare (22%)
Critical Infrastructure (18%)

prevalence of cyber threats and attacks in
today's interconnected world. These include
Cert-in, NCIIPC, I4C, Policy Initiatives, etc.
CERT-IN:
