ACTION PLAN

WORKSHEET
An action plan is an important part of the authorization and evaluation processes. This is not a template for the final action plan.
Rather, it is a worksheet to help guide the action planning process. Use this worksheet, and the Programme standards and practices,
to begin to create a framework with which to build a more developed action plan. Feel free to add additional columns depending on
your learning organisation’s specific needs.

Course notes:
 What do you think you will need to do with regard to international-mindedness?
1. Ensure teachers and curricula include material from a broad range of cultural contexts, are sensitive to the context they are
teaching in and their own cultural heritage.
2. Plan trips and CAS activities that encourage students to expose themselves to different cultures.
3. Integrate international-mindedness into school rituals, celebrations and traditions.
4. Ensure policies do not privilege one culture over another, or denigrate one at the expense of another, except as mandated by
law.
5. Encourage use of second languages and mother tongue
 How will your role be involved in the actual implementation of the IB programme at your school?
My role is to guide the DP programme, as established by the previous co-ordinator. I ensure we maintain compliance with
standards and practises, collaborate with teachers about the school calendar, ensure we remain up-to-date with teaching
materials and course guidance, maintain contacts with other DP Coordinators and am the point of contact for parents whose
students are enrolled in DP. I also run evaluation and admissions of new candidates, participate in the pedagogical leadership
team on behalf of the DP programme and maintain student records, and maintain impartial and fair assessments procedures,
 Are there any monetary considerations?
1. Yes. The nature of which would require several more pages to explain fully.
 Are there any people other than yourself that you will need to contact/involve?
1. The Head of School, the Head of Section, the Vice Principal, the Board of Governors, the other members of the
pedagogical leadership team and my fellow educators, plus parents and community stakeholders, and my equivalents
at other IB schools in the area.
2. Student representative bodies.

Leading collaborative planning:

1. Ensure time is scheduled once or twice a month for full faculty collaborative session.
2. Create set time periods for departmental collaboration between teachers, and between subject teachers and the CAS
coordinator and ToK teacher.
3. Ensure assessment data has been collated before collaborative meetings to address academic issues.
4. Have course outlines to hand to see if there is potential overlap between different subject areas which allow cross-discipline
learning opportunities.
5. Ensure there is an itinerary of issues to address, time for open-floor discussions, and meeting ends with resolutions and
actionable plans.
6. Ensure minutes are kept for records and Head of School.

Planning for the introduction of a broad, balanced, connected and coherent curriculum:
1. Attempt to alleviate some of class-teaching workload for DP teachers to create more opportunities for discussion between
departments and the creation of interdisciplinary learning engagements.
2. At the start of the year, allocate time for teachers to discuss course outlines; potentially tie specific teaching to certain
calendar date, i.e. earth day or national holidays?
3. Create a large calendar to place in the staff room showing different departmental streams. Encourage teachers to use post-it
notes to show their current topic and future planning.
4. Connect with the PYP and MYP departments to explore opportunities for larger scale projects, events or trips.
5. Greater freedom should be given to the CAS coordinator to plan out-of-school learning experiences, informed by student
requests or projects.
Monetary considerations:
1. A budget should be established for cross-curriculum projects which require special equipment, travel or other expenses.
2. Teachers should have their workload reduced to allow more time to meaningfully participate in collaboration, or new teachers
hired to reduce the staff stretch.
3. Related to the above, teachers should be paid for attending teachers-in-service, course planning and preparatory time.
4. The CAS department should be allocated an annual budget and a set number of days for CAS trips and activities each year.

Are there any people other than yourself that you will need to contact/involve?
1. The Head of School and Governing Board
2. The MYP and PYP coordinators
3. The CAS coordinators and teaching staff.

How will you lead your team(s) to explicitly teach/ help students develop approaches to learning?
1. Ensure all teachers have and use the policies handbook, and that references to specific policies and pages are used in
departmental communications and collaborative meetings.
2. Discuss ATL/ATT with school counsellor and ensure that feedback from students relating to learning issues are fed back in an
ethical way.
3. Monitor implementation of assessment policies on campus and on online learning platform.
4. Check-in with teaching staff at collaborative meetings and one-to-one meetings.
5. Ensure students are aware of ATL and understand IB pedagogy, and encourage them to feedback on issues they are facing.
how will you engage your school communities to be active partners in your authorization journey?
1. Hold annual workshops for parents of incoming cohort to provide policy documents ad ensure all parents understand and
engage with mission.
2. Encourage parents to join online learning platform to engage with their students’ learning.
3. Continue to reach out to local and regional IB and other schools for collaboration and corporation.
how you will develop or modify your school policies to meet IB requirements?
1. Ensure existing policies are clear and enforced
2. Maintain contact with IB for changes or further information
Remain open to feedback from teaching staff and other stakeholders to gauge efficacy of existing policies.
