Preface
Today’s young generation is in highly competitive world, and in pursuit of achieving success with
ease, have primarily limited their choice of reading to objective books, constituting of bulk of multiple
choices questions without any regards to their possible explanations. The question setters are fully
aware of the students’ ‘mug up’ approach and have modified their methods of synthesising test papers
to focus more on conceptual and research-based topics. Considering the deficiency/shortfall of a book
catering present needs, we, the authors have made efforts to pen down a book that not only offers a
variety of relevant subject-based questions but also provides likely explanations for them. The motive
behind publishing this book has been to maintain strictly quality questions while providing contents
that are more relevant, well-researched, and most importantly of recent development according to the
present guidelines of competitive examinations conducted by ICAR, ASRB, SAUs, Union and State
PSC, and other ancillary departments/ organizations.

The “An Insight into Agronomy” is one-of-a-kind book that is both objective and subjective,
eliminating the readers’ discomfort of skimming out explanations of each question from textbooks.
Short discussion attached with the questions is presented in a way which is easily understandable/
graspable and will assist prospective candidates in developing knowledge and confidence. The book
includes 9 chapters, which cover all aspects of Agronomy, which may be broadly sub-divided into
agroecology, soil science, plant physiology and agrometeorology. An attempt has been made to expose
the readers to ‘Why’ of every question by using diagrams, illustrations, tables, and charts that will
definitely clarify difficult concepts and stimulate their interests in the subject. All mathematical problems
have been presented in simple and lucid forms, avoiding unnecessary, irrelevant details and tedious
calculations, which would help in honing the reasoning ability of the students. Moreover, a new element
in the form of a blogging website has been added through which the readers may directly interact
with the authors, and get their doubts clarified in concerned subject. The readers can also get access
to the current agricultural advancements and stay updated for examinations. We hope that this book
will ignite young brains towards learning more to meet their needs adequately and help them in their
quest for success.
Finally, we gratefully acknowledge Ms. Subhrasurajita Bhoi for her help, support and motivation
during the preparation of this book and convey our profuse thanks to her.
