From February 2025, a NATO TF Air
(ITAF X Fighter Group/ 36th Wing framework) is
deployed in Keflavik to carry out the service of QRA
(Quick Reaction Alert) in order to protect the Icelandic
skies, with six F 2000A Typhoon aircrafts.
Russia is conducting large scale "Zapad" and “Sever”
military exercises in close proximity to the borders of
the Baltic States and Finland.
The scope of the "Zapad" exercise and the quantity of
Russian involved forces has raised alarm within the
Alliance. The exercise comes amidst an already
increasing tensions.
Russia and Belarus claim that NATO forces are a threat
to their security and they are only exercising to
maintain readiness for national defense.
