Professor Abdul Rahim Sabouni is the Vice Chancellor and CEO of ALHOSN University. He holds a
PhD degree from Cornell University in Structural Engineering, a Masters Degree from the George
Washington University, and a Bachelors degree from Damascus University, and has more than 30
years of academic and professional experience in the US, Canada and the Middle East. In addition
to being a Professor at ALHOSN University, he is an adjunct Professor in three Canadian
Universities, Carleton University, the University of Western Ontario and Ryerson University. As a professional Engineer Dr.
Sabouni worked as a building design consultant, and technical advisor in the government of Abu Dhabi, and was involved
in many prestigious projects, including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the Emirates Palace projects. Dr. Sabouni is a
Professional Engineer in Ontario, Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Fellow of the American Concrete
Institute, the founding president of the ACI-UAE Chapter, and the First recipient of the George Winter Fellowship Award in
Cornell University. Prof. Sabouni publications include articles in reinforced concrete materials, and in expert systems for
concrete mixes, and deteriorated concrete structures.

Salah Altoubat received his Ph.D in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-
Champaign in 2000. He has industrial and academic experience in North America and in the
Middle East. His expertise spans materials engineering, structural engineering and civil
engineering infrastructure. He joined the University of Sharjah, UAE as Assistant Professor of Civil
Engineering in September 2002. He is a recipient of the American Concrete Institute (ACI)
Wason Award for the most meritorious paper in the year 2003. Previously, he was a senior
research associate at W. R. Grace, Cambridge, USA. He has been involved in consulting work at
the national and international levels. His current research interest includes structural applications of fiber reinforced
concrete; seismic evaluation and risk mitigation; rehabilitation of civil infrastructures; High Performance concrete;
Durability of concrete structures; early age behavior of concrete, creep, shrinkage and cracking of concrete.

Dr. Mohamad Nagi has more than 25 years experience in construction materials, corrosion of metals, durability, repair and
non-destructive test methods. Currently services as the Director of Infrastructure Sustainability and Assessment Centre at
the American University of Dubai. Until October of 2009, he was the regional manager of the materials technology and
asset integrity group of GHD in Dubai. He served as project director of an IVTA (Independent Verification and Testing
Agency) program at Burj Khalifa and Qatalum project in Doha. Prior to joining GHD, he worked for 17 years at CTLGroup, a
leading engineering firm specialised in concrete structures in the United States. At CTL, he conducted research programs
in the area of concrete and corrosion sponsored by FHWA, SHRP and PCA. Dr. Nagi has been the author of more than 30
technical papers on concrete materials, corrosion, durability and non-destructive testing.
