Unit 17 Transformation

Unit 17 covers transformations in geometry, focusing on coordinates, translations, reflections, and rotations. Key concepts include the definition of axes, corresponding vertices, and the processes of translating, reflecting, and rotating shapes. Vocabulary terms such as diagonal mirror line, centre of rotation, and directions of rotation are also introduced.

LEARNERS BOOK PG: 229

Topic 17.1 Coordinates and translations
VOCABULARY
Axis: A number line drawn on a coordinate gird and labelled
either X or Y. The X-axis is horizontal, and the y-axis is
vertical.
Corresponding vertices: Corresponding vertices are
vertices that are in the same position on the shape before
and after a transformation.

Translate: Moving a shape on a coordinate grid.

Example , Triangle A translated to Triangle B

Move 4 square right and 1 square up
Topic 17.2 Reflections
VOCABULARY
Diagonal mirror line: A mirror line which is not horizontal
or vertical.

Topic 17.3 Rotations

VOCABULARY

Rotate: Turning a shape around a fixed point.

Centre of rotation: The point about which a shape is
rotated.
Clockwise: Turning in the same direction as the hands of
a clock.
Anti clockwise: Turning in the opposite direction to the
