ActivPak® VCI Packets

Technical Data Sheet

ZERUST®/EXCOR® ActivPak® is a versatile and powerful fast-acting corrosion inhibitor sachet designed to address flash rust and
corrosion concerns in demanding scenarios, including overseas shipping and polluted factory environments. Its robust formula
offers protection against acid gases and contaminants, making it suitable for safeguarding metals during operation, storage, and
in aggressive manufacturing and shipping conditions. They are quick and easy to install. Simply remove the ActivPak® from the
packaging, place it in the desired location, and tightly seal the enclosure or packaging to trap the vapors inside.

ActivPak® packets feature cutting-edge Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) technology Volatile Flash Corrosion Inhibitor (FCI™) that
rapidly shields ferrous and aluminum metals for up to 2 years‡ in a sealed enclosure. This technology effectively combats flash rust
and long-term corrosion through progressive VCI chemistry that settles onto exposed metal surfaces inside the packaging or
enclosure. Upon removal from the packaging or enclosure, the VCI will dissipate from the metal surfaces, allowing immediate
painting, welding, or further processing. It is important to note that ActivPak® should be used in accordance with the
recommended guidelines. Prior to implementation, it is advisable to conduct a test.

For over 50 years, ZERUST® VCI technology has proven its performance and safety with thousands of customers worldwide. It is
used to protect valuable metal items for manufacturers in industries such as automotive, agricultural, aerospace, and mining.
ZERUST®/EXCOR® offers on-site support and service in more than 70 countries via a network of 21 joint venture partnerships.

your metal assets.

Typical Properties
Appearance* Brown or white non-woven sachet.
Substrates Ferrous and aluminum protection.
Vapor Inhibiting Ability (VIA) Pass (NACE TM0208)
* Please note we have recently changed the inner brown color sachet material for ActivPak® due to material availability. The new sachet material is white and
has a slightly different feel. The change of the inner sachet material will NOT affect the products’ performance, functionality, or delivery lead times. This is purely
a cosmetic change. All product packaging, part numbers, formulations, SDS, and sizes remain unchanged. As we transition into the new sachet material in
October 2022, you may be receiving mixed lots (but not mixed in the same box) of products containing both brown and white sachets until the current product
inventory depletes.

This data sheet provides general guidelines for operation, application, and removal. Please contact your ZERUST®/EXCOR®
account representative for more specific recommendations on your particular operation and conditions.

Operating Summary
• Remove the product from the packaging.
• Take note of the installation date. ActivPak® is rated to provide up to 2 years‡ of protection (See Protection Info on page 2
for specific protection capabilities).
• Place the ActivPak® in the most ideal location possible following the principles below:
o Center: The ideal location to obtain maximum coverage of protection from the sachet. This position may not be possible
if the center is occupied.
o Corner: In deeper enclosures, two sachets may be required on diagonally opposed corners to fully protect the entire
space.
o Sides: This is practical for most applications and provides the optimum side-mounted protection.
o Dual Placement: For longer boxes or divided spaces, place a sachet in opposite corners for complete coverage.
• Ensure that the airflow to the enclosure is restricted. It is essential to restrict airflow to the container, as airflow removes the
protective vapor barrier from the space faster than it can be released from the ActivPak® sachet.
o When applying ActivPak® within enclosures where the air is replaced regularly, such as
air-cooling systems, it is recommended to place the sachet close to the source of airflow.
For added corrosion protection, consider placing an additional ActivPak® near the sensitive
metal surface to be protected.
• Upon removal of the ActivPak® or opening the enclosure, the ZERUST® protective molecules
will dissipate from the metal surface in a few hours. Corrosion protection of the metal surface
will also cease by this time.
