Based on your reading in Module 1: Week 1, what are pluralism, inclusivism, and exclusivism?
Address the following questions: If Christianity is true, are other religions also true? Why or why
not? Do other religions contain truths? If yes, give examples. Do other religions contribute to
salvation? If yes, how or in what ways? If no, why not? Include a total word count at the bottom
of your thread.
Pluralism as defined in Oxford dictionary, is, “a condition or system in which two or more states,
groups, principles, sources of authority, etc., coexist.”1 In a religious or belief setting, the
acceptance and or tolerance of all beliefs can be considered pluralistic. “Inclusivism is the view
that there is actually only one true religion, but other religions are either imperfect versions of it,
or adherents of other religions, even though they may not know it, actually receive the benefits of
that one prototype religion.”2 It’s kind of like taking ideas and beliefs from two or more
practices, subconsciously, and forming one’s own belief. Exclusivism is defined as “the practice
of excluding or being exclusive.”3
Christianity is true which means that other religions are not true. Basic reasoning suggests that if
something is true it cannot be proven false by something else that is true. There can only be one
truth.
Other religions do contain truths. I have heard that even a lie contains some truth, which makes it
believable to some. The belief in various religions that there is a God is true, however, the belief
that this god is the same God that Christians worship is not true.

The contribution to salvation from other religions can be argued with the scripture. In Romans
7:7, Paul states, “What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I
had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou
shalt not covet. (KJV) Religions that still practice the law cannot be saved, and those of us that
understand repentance and the forgiveness of sin because of the practicing of the law, will have
salvation because of this knowledge.
