CONTENT
The content of a product defines the product, the content is the “why” the product came into existence
in the first place and must not under any means be compromised
Contents in skincare products are defined based on the ingredients that make up these products and the
ingredients should be put together based on what the product is intended to achieve
For instance, let us play a game of hide and seek.
There is a certain product which I do not know the name neither do I know what it is meant for. All I
know is that it contains alcohol, salicylic acid, camphor as its active ingredients
By looking through these ingredients, I already know that the product is intended for people who have
oily/acne prone skin. Another thing this product tells me is that it is not meant for people who have
sensitive skin as it is a bit aggressive in its composition
The above describes clarity in interaction of ingredients which is the sole responsibility of the creator of
the product
Again, we could look at a product which contains coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, vitamin e oil, shea
butter, cocoa butter. I would be correct to say that this product is targeted towards skin building and
would be good for skin repair, moisture control, stretch marks, green veins etc
What I am saying in essence is that for your product to be of value, for it to be able to pass any skin care
product test in flying colours, it must be able to speak volumes to the person carrying out the analysis
through its ingredients
Another factor to consider is the aspect of content integrity
This is by far the biggest joke so far in the Nigerian skincare industry. How would a person with blood
flowing through their veins insert chemical relaxers into skincare products and call it organic?

I tremble at the thought of the damage caused already but truth be told, there is a chance that you,
reading this book tonight has probably purchased and used such cream without knowing. You bought
the product because the manufacturer told you it was organic, that it contained carrots, onions,
tomatoes, peppers, salt and what have you
People would say anything to get money out of your pockets and you should by all means make your
findings before committing your money
Talk about spending your hard-earned money to purchase a product that will eventually lead to health
complications few years down the line, it’s not in any way worth it
In as much as I would like to continue this line of thought, the book is intended for formulators and not
for consumers so I can only appeal to your conscience that at all times, have at the back of your mind
the safety of your consumer
Do not label a product organic when you have added all the steroids that the world could ever consume
in the next 15 years. I was part of a group on facebook, I use the word was because very recently I
discovered that I had been banned from posting on the group and this is because I say things like this
which I do not intend to stop saying anyway but I saw the administrator of that group recommending
the popular DOP shampoo to be mixed with black soap.
someone raised concern and the administrator said DOP shampoo contains 2% chemicals and 98%
organic so it was safe to use. Now, if you look at the ingredient content of this said shampoo, it does not
contain up to 1% organic ingredients, it is a product that you might not want to use on your hai r not to
talk of your skin
But as usual, people wrote down the recipe and began duplicating it and destroying many unsuspecting
people’s skin
This book was not put together to destroy anyone’s hustle but it is high time someone set the records
straight and we can only start by appealing to the conscience of every formulator and cream mixologist
to please be easy with the mixes and let our skins thank you in years to come
Having explained all of these above, the next question on your mind should be

HOW DO I CREATE GOOD CONTENT FOR MY PRODUCTS?
The answer is simple. Get a coach, employ the service of an expert. Get them to look at the products
you intend to bring into the market, its full ingredients list and let them educate you on what to add and
what to remove.
This method would save you a lot of stress and would be worth whatever amount such experts would
charge you.
It takes giving something extra to an ordinary content before it becomes an extraordinary content which
later makes it to become an extraordinary product
You should also test all of your products before producing them for sale. Do not go from copying the
recipe on a whatsapp group or a facebook group to selling and promoting the products, test them after
checking to see that the ingredients are ok, make sure you test before you sell

VALUE
Just before you put out your product for sale, after you must have tested it severally, you must evaluate
its performance in order to place the right value on it.
It is very common for you to see phrases like “ buy my product, it works like magic” this statement
appeals to only the shallow minds and does not make you stand out i n any form because come to think
of it, everyone says it and it does not really mean anything after all
But you can talk about your product in terms of its value. You begin to say things like;
Our product contains vitamin c which gradually fades pigmentation and it also eliminates mild to
moderate acne
The above statement has actually told us the benefit of the product to the consumer and not just that it
works like magic. You have stated its purpose and what ingredient makes it achieve that purpose
You can state that your product contains salicylic acid which helps to exfoliate an area that has stretch
marks and also contains shea butter which helps repair the skin tissues and bring healing to the
condition
I cannot begin to emphasize the importance of bringing value to your product by how well you define it
but then if you would stand out, if your product would be the wonder product, then you must by all
means place value on it
Do not allow people place the value for you, it is your product, you created it so you have the sole right
to place value on it
Value can also be decided on monetary basis. That is, how much to sell the product. You do not
necessarily have to consider the cost price alone, although this is equally important but you should at
every decision-making point input the price of your product based on cost price and its result in value

This is one of the things that made good money for me when I started out making my own products for
sale back in 2011. As a skincare professional, if you plan to stand out, you must keep attending seminars,
taking courses and all. Good news is these things are very expensive especially when you put into
consideration the present value of the naira in relation to foreign exchange, therefore you cannot afford
to be a mediocre skincare professional
Do not undercharge your products and do not overcharge them. Let the price be according to its value
value can also be considered in terms of feedback from your consumers. If at the time of production,
you considered it to be an average product but you kept receiving wow comments, feel free to tweak
your price a little bit just so you can enjoy the dividends of your labour
the most important thing is to not let the love of money cloud your judgement. Once that is out of the
way, charge your product correctly according to its value

PACKAGING
Whether you like it or not, people will always judge a book by its cover. They would see a book with very
enticing cover and without flipping through its pages determine it is a good book worth their money but
would despise a book with good content simply because of an unattractive cover design
The same could be said about skincare products. When you display a lovely, sophisticated looking
product, people already have the idea that it is a good product and worth i ts trial
The Chinese used this tool to break the market when they introduced the “made in china” products. All
of their stuff was and still is very attractive and you might want to ditch the original just for the beauty
of what they were offering.
There is a psychology that beauty plays on us which can be used and used and used over and over as a
sales strategy
Dencia of WHITENICIOUS brand started out with very pretty containers when she introduced her
products to the market and sold these products at a very high price. When I went through online
reviews of her products, no one failed to mention that the packaging was pretty and they just felt proud
having whitenicious sit on their dressing table
These combo of the CONTENT, its VALUE and its PACKAGING together helps you create the wonder
product
I would expatiate on all of these points when the book is officially out but these are excerpts from my
book titled “the wonder product” and I am placing these in your hands with high hopes that it would
change at least one thing in your skincare business and I would get wonderful reviews
Please feel free to share with your friends who are also in the skincare business and let me have their
reviews as well
