• Form SE 401-Q-106 for exchanges to be signed by your institution and the
RAMQ

ETUDES EN FRANCE

Registration is mandatory before applying for a visa


on France Visas. All you have to do is create a
personal electronic file and complete all the
information needed. Your file must be validated to be
able to receive your visa.

You will receive an Etudes en France number that


will be asked while filling the France Visas form. It
starts with CA25-XXXXX.

As you are applying for a student visa, you will have


a priority access to book a visa appointment
directly on the VFS website.

Monthly financial aid to help you pay your rent

The amount varies according to the type of housing, the price of the
rent and the student's situation.

THE INSTALLATION IN THE ACCOMMODATION

Once the accommodation is found and booked, it is necessary to :

• Take out a home insurance policy with an insurance company or a


bank. This can be done online.
• Have a guarantor in France - if not, apply for VISALE
• Sign the lease contract.
• Pay a security deposit if required, often equal to one month's rent, in
addition to the first rent.
• Possibly take out a gas and electricity subscription.
• Register on the CAF website to apply for possible aid such as the
APL.
In case of early departure, be careful about the notice period.

TIPS

Do not wait to be in France to look for an accommodation. You can apply for
housing from a distance

Be vigilant and check the seriousness of the organization that offers housing
student housing.

Do not send money remotely without having signed a rental contract and
having exchanged directly with an organization.

It is sometimes difficult to find housing, especially in Paris.

Multiplying your requests for housing increases your chances of finding one
quickly.

OPENING A BANK ACCOUNT

An international student can open a bank account in any city in


France.

Compare the offers of the different banks: different rates depending


on the establishment

The account is opened in a branch, during an appointment with an


advisor.

Check with your Canadian bank to see if it has any agreements


with French banks

• A certificate of schooling / student card
• A proof of residence

Le Relevé d’Identité Bancaire (RIB): issued by the bank, contains


information about the account, it is often required to make monthly

WORK

Supplementing your income by working while you are a student is


possible in France, regardless of your level of study or nationality.
The conditions:
• Hold a long-stay visa validating a residence permit (VLS-TS)
for students.
• Authorization to work on a secondary basis. 20 hours per week,
which is the equivalent of 60% of the legal working time.
• Internship hours are not counted
• The legal minimum wage is 11,88€ gross / hour (2025)
