Writing review :

1. Types of clauses :

 Independent clause: Can stand alone, has (Subject + verb + meaning). Ex: She is
driving.
 Dependent clause: Can’t stand alone, and always starts with a subordinating
conjunction (because, while, when, though, even though, although, since, if…).
Ex: While she is driving.

2. Types of sentences :
a. Simple sentence: 1 independent clause. Ex: Ahmed is reading a book.She is
reading and listening.

b. Compound sentence: 2 independent clauses linked by a comma(,) and a


coordinating conjunction ( Fan Boys : For, and , nor, but, or, yet, so). Ex: I
like reading books, but my sister likes watching movies.

c. Complex Sentence: 1 independent + 1 or more dependent clauses. Ex: She is


listening to music while she is driving. Even though she was sick, she went to
class.
Nb : never put a comma before a subordinating conjunction

d. Compound complex sentence: two independent clauses + one or more


dependent clauses. Ex: Although she was tired, she finished her homework,
and she went to bed early.
3. Paragraph:
A group of sentences that talk about a main idea. It consists of 3 main part:

 A topic sentence: The first sentence of the paragraph. It introduces the main
idea.
Eating healthy foods is important for maintaining good health. First, fruits and
vegetables provide essential vitamins and minerals. Second, drinking water instead of
sugary drinks helps keep the body hydrates. Finally, eating balanced meals can
improve energy levels and prevent diseases. By choosing nutritious foods, people can

 Supporting sentences: Provides details, examples, or explanations.
