RULE BOOK

• 9 players in a team (6 playing 3 substitutes)


• Each match is of 3 sets
• Maximum of 3 hits per side. Player may not hit the ball twice in succession (a block is not
considered a hit)

THE SERVE

• Serve must serve from behind the end line until after contact.
• Ball may be served underhand or overhand.
• Served ball may graze the net and drop to the other side for point.
• Prior to the match commencing the referee will call in the team captains from each team, the
referee will often flip a coin, the winner of the coin flip can choose to serve or receive first. Once
the match has started the team that wins the rally will become the serving team
• Serve may touch the net but, musty land in on the other side.

SCORING RULES

• Rally Scoring will be used – a point is scored on every rally, regardless of which team serves.
• The offensive team scores a point when the defensive team:
• Misses a return
• Hits the ball out of bounds
• The defensive team scores a point when the offensive team:
• Misses a return
• Hits the ball out of bounds
• Serves the ball into the net
• Each set is played to 25 points, and a team must win by 2 points.
• In case of a deuce (24-24), the first team to reach 30 points will be declared the winner of the
set.

PLAYING THE GAME

• Ball may be played off the net during a volley and on serve.
• A ball touching the outer lines is considered inside court.
• A legal hit is contact with the ball by any part of a player's body which does not allow the ball to
visibly come to a rest.
• If two or more players contact the ball simultaneously, it is considered one play and the players
involved may not participate in the next play.
• Only one time out during a set.
BASIC VIOLATION'S

• Stepping on or over the line on a serve.


• Failure to serve the ball over the net successfully.
• Hitting the ball illegally carrying, throwing, palming, etc.
• Touches of the net with any part of the body while the ball is in play.
• If the ball is driven into the nets with such force that it causes the net to contact an opposing
player, no foul will be called, and the ball shall continue to be play.
