Communication and Cultural Awareness.

Cultural awareness recognizes that we are all shaped
by our cultural environment, which influences how we
interpret the world around us and how we perceive
ourselves and relate to others.

Oral communication.
With oral communication we can express our emotions
and feelings as well as our ideas or opinions.

Reading.
Reading is a wonderful tool for learning English. It favors
the expansion of vocabulary, reinforces spelling and
grammar, helps to learn the correct pronunciation of
sounds and allows little readers to let their imagination
run wild.
For the most effective and orderly management of the
English text, some representative images have been
created that surely it will visually facilitate the location
of certain sections to better guide your work.

Writing.
You will be able to establish ties and connections with
people from all over the world.

Language through the arts.

The arts help the development of the four skills: listening,
speaking, writing and reading, since art enhances these
skills through their integral components in their different
artistic manifestations.

Other support sections.

Listening comprehension.
Listening skills are as important if not more important than oral
skills, since one does not work without the other.

Phonetics.
Phonics will help develop your oral skills by significantly improving
your pronunciation.

The Innovators: Changing the World with STEAM Science.
Author: AI-Eli.

Once upon a time, there was a scientist named Dr. Santiago, nicknamed "The
Brain," who excelled in all fields of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and
Mathematics) science. Dr. Santiago was a genius and he was deeply concerned about
the state of the world around him. He saw how pollution and the destruction of the
environment were impacting life on the planet.
He decided to gather a team of equally brilliant and dedicated individuals who
would change the world. He called upon engineer Ava, an expert in renewable energy,
mathematician Oliver, specializing in climate modeling, and artist Maya, whose talent
for illustration could convey powerful messages. Together, they formed the group
"The Innovators."
The goal of The Innovators was to find innovative and sustainable solutions
to halt the destruction of the environment. Dr. Santiago led the team, guiding the
research and proposing revolutionary ideas. Ava designed clean energy systems and
developed technologies that maximized the use of natural resources. Oliver used his
mathematical knowledge to predict and better understand climate patterns, finding
ways to mitigate natural disasters.
Maya, on the other hand, dedicated herself to raising awareness through art. She
created murals and exhibits that depicted the beauty of nature and the consequences
of its destruction, awakening empathy and the desire for change in people.
Together, The Innovators achieved significant breakthroughs. They developed
renewable energy systems that replaced polluting sources, implemented massive
reforestation techniques to restore lost forests, and designed innovative methods
of recycling and waste management. Through their tireless work, they demonstrated
that it was possible to protect the environment without sacrificing progress and
development.
Over time, the ideas and inventions of The Innovators spread worldwide. Others
were inspired by their work and joined the cause, forming a global network of scientists
and activists committed to preserving the planet.
15
The legacy of Dr. Santiago and The Innovators was immense. Their
multidisciplinary approach and passion for science and the environment managed to
change the course of destruction. Thanks to them, the world became more aware,
sustainable, and livable for future generations.
And thus, the STEAM scientist and his team showed that intelligence and
creativity could be powerful tools to reverse the destructive effects of humanity,
providing a future full of hope and prosperity for all.

Lesson 4 The Simple Past tense.

The simple past (also known as the past indefinite or preterite) is a verb
READ

tense used to indicate that an action occurred at a specific time in the past.

Simple Past Forms:

I understand. For example:
Affirmative: You called Debbie.
Question: Did you call Debbie?
Negative: You did not call Debbie.

Simple Past Forms:

The simple past is formed
using the verb + ed. In
addition, there are many verbs
with irregular past forms.
Questions are made with did
and negative forms are made
with did not.

Watch and internalize the explanation in the video.

The verb "to be" in the present simple:

https://goo.su/iMqqaT

If you need to ask a question, simply place the verb

"to be" at the beginning of the sentence:
17
Simple Past Uses.
USE 1. Completed Action in the Past.
The simple past is used to express the idea that an action started and
finished at a specific time in the past.
Examples:
• I saw a movie yesterday.
• I didn't see a play yesterday.
• Last year, I traveled to Japan.
• Last year, I didn't travel to Korea.
• Did you have dinner last night?
• She washed her car.
• He didn't wash his car.

USE 2. A Series of Completed Actions.

We use the simple past to list a series of completed actions in the past.
These actions happen 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on.
Examples:
• I finished work, walked to the beach, and found a nice place to swim.
• He arrived from the airport at 8:00, checked into the hotel at 9:00, and
met the others at 10:00.
• Did you add flour, pour in the milk, and then add the eggs?

USE 3. Duration in the Past.

The simple past can be used with a duration which starts and stops in the
past. A duration is a longer action often indicated by expressions such as for
two years, for five minutes, all day, all year, etc.
Examples:
• I lived in Brazil for two years.
• Shauna studied Japanese for five years.
• They sat at the beach all day.
• They did not stay at the party the entire time.
• We talked on the phone for thirty minutes.
- A: ¿How long did you wait for them?
18 - B: We waited for one hour.
USE 4. Habits in the Past.
The simple past can also be used to describe a habit which stopped in the
past. It can have the same meaning as used to. To make it clear that we
are talking about a habit, we often add expressions such as always, often,
usually, never, when I was a child, when I was younger, etc.
Examples:
• I studied French when I was a child.
• He played the violin.
• He didn't play the piano.
• Did you play a musical instrument when you were a kid?
• She worked at the movie theater after school.
• They never went to school, they always skipped class.

USE 5. Past Facts or Generalizations.

The simple past can also be used to describe past facts or generalizations
which are no longer true. As in USE 4 above, this use of the simple past is
quite similar to the expression used to.
Examples:
• She was shy as a child, but now she is very outgoing.
• He didn't like tomatoes before.
• Did you live in Texas when you were a kid?
• People paid much more to make cell phone calls in the past.

Now you follow:

Write five sentences in English using the past simple tense to

express a duration in the past.
Answers:

REMEMBER: denote events that happened in the past.
So, if any sentence depicts an action that
has already happened at a specific time,
then the verb is in the past tense.

Observe these sentences.

Lisa went to the supermarket

SECOND PART. Sketch humorístico. Create a sketch with three or four classmates on
the topic of your presentation. Look at the example:

Title: "The Crazy Laboratory."

Inventor Bob: An eccentric and distracted scientist.

Assistant Alice: A witty and patient assistant.
Inventory "Cachivaches": A closet full of strange and seemingly useless objects.
23
Scene 1: Inventor Bob's Laboratory.
(The stage shows Inventor Bob's chaotic laboratory, filled with strange artifacts and gadgets
everywhere).
Inventor Bob: (scratching his head) Oh no! I lost my latest invention. It was a device to find
lost things.
Assistant Alice: (smiling) Shouldn't you be able to find it using your own invention?
Inventor Bob: (laughing) Good idea, Alice! But I don't have time right now. I have to present
my new invention today.

Scene 2: Presentation of the Revolutionary Invention.

(Inventor Bob is nervous as he presents his new invention to an expectant audience).
Inventor Bob: (enthusiastically) And now, I present to you my most revolutionary invention
to date! The mind-reading hat!
(Alice looks at the hat skeptically as the audience murmurs amongst themselves).
Assistant Alice: (whispering) Are you sure it works?
Inventor Bob: (confidently) Of course! I just need a volunteer. Who wants to try the mind-
reading hat?
(The audience hesitates, and no one volunteers. Finally, a shy volunteer raises their hand).
Volunteer: (nervously) I... I'll try it.
(Inventor Bob places the hat on the volunteer's head and presses a button).
Volunteer: (thinking intensely) A chocolate ice cream!
(They wait for a few seconds).
Inventor Bob: (excitedly) I guessed it! ¡A chocolate ice cream!
(The audience applauds, but Alice looks at the volunteer, who is holding a card that says "A
chocolate ice cream" in their hand).
Assistant Alice: (smiling) That was... surprising!
Scene 3: The Gizmo Inventory.
(In the laboratory, Inventor Bob frantically searches for his lost invention among the strange
objects in the Gizmo Inventory).
Inventor Bob: (frustrated) Where is it? Where is it?
Assistant Alice: (holding the invention) Here it is, Bob. It was in the Gizmo Inventory all along.
Inventor Bob: (blushing) ¡Oh, what a blunder! Thanks, Alice.

Scene 4: The Comic Ending.

(Inventor Bob puts the mind-reading hat on his own head and presses the button).
Inventor Bob: (thinking intensely) "I hope nobody noticed my blunder."
(Alice smiles as she reads Inventor Bob's mind).
Assistant Alice: (laughing) Don't worry, Bob. We all make mistakes.

To form a question in English in the past, use "did" + subject + base verb
(infinitive) without "to." This structure is called the simple past tense and is
used for past action questions.

For example:

Statement in the past: He played soccer yesterday.

Question in the past: Did he play soccer yesterday?

Vacations filled with extreme adventures.

Author: IA-Eli
There were five friends: Alex, Emma, Liam, Sophia, and Oliver. After
weeks of commitments and responsibilities, they finally had a day off and
decided to make the most of it with an adventure together.
They gathered early in the morning, ready to embark on their day of
adventure. They wanted to explore a beautiful forest near the city. They
carried backpacks with provisions, cameras to capture special moments, and
a lot of positive energy.
The fresh air and the singing of the birds enveloped them, creating a
revitalizing atmosphere. They shared funny stories and laughed together,
fostering camaraderie and joy.
As they ventured deeper into the forest, they came across a crystal-clear
river winding through the trees. They couldn't resist the temptation to cool
off, so they took off their shoes and immersed themselves in the water. The
four friends enjoyed that moment of fun and connection with nature.
After refreshing themselves, they continued their hike and reached a
hilltop from where they could see mountains, trees stretching to the horizon,
and the bright sun illuminating everything.
They found a peaceful spot to have lunch, spreading a blanket on the
grass and sharing a delicious meal. As they talked about their dreams and
goals, they provided mutual support and encouraged each other to pursue
what made them happy.
They discovered mysterious caves, climbed tall trees, and challenged
each other with fun activities. As the sun began to set on the horizon, they
returned to the starting point of the forest. They were grateful for the shared
leisure time and the powerful effect it had on their spirits.
They bid farewell with hugs and smiles, and each of them returned to
their daily responsibilities with renewed energy. They knew that, even amidst
the tasks and challenges of life, they would always have those moments of
leisure and adventure to remember and revitalize their spirits.

Ecuador at the Olympics.

Ecuador has participated in the Olympic

Games since 1924, with the exception of the
1932 Games. Throughout its Olympic history,
Ecuador has competed in a variety of sports.
Some of the sports in which Ecuador has
participated in the Olympics include athletics,
swimming, cycling, weightlifting, judo, boxing,
and taekwondo, among others.
One of the highlights of Ecuador at the Olympics was during the 1996
Olympic Games in Atlanta, when race walker Jefferson Pérez won the gold
medal in the 20-kilometer race walk event. It was Ecuador's first Olympic
gold medal and a significant milestone for the country. Pérez became a
national hero, and his achievement at the Olympic Games inspired future
Ecuadorian athletes.
This moment was special because it showcased Ecuador's ability to
excel in global sporting events. Moreover, the fact that it was Ecuador's
first Olympic gold medal made it even more memorable. Jefferson Pérez's
dedication, effort, and talent in that competition were admirable, and his
victory brought great pride and joy to Ecuadorians.
This is just one example of a sports moment that stands out in
Ecuador's Olympic history, but over the years, many Ecuadorian athletes
have represented their country with honor in various sports disciplines.

The Adventurers of the Guinness World Records Mansion.

Author: IA Eli.

Once upon a time, there was a group of

young adventurers exploring an old abandoned
mansion in search of thrilling legends and
mysteries. Among these intrepid explorers
was Alex, a brave and curious 15-year-old boy.
Alongside him were his friends, Laura, Lucas,
and Mia, each with their own reasons for
wanting to uncover the secrets of the mansion.
As they entered the mansion, everything seemed dark and eerie. However, Alex
refused to be intimidated and pressed on with his friends. While walking through the
dark passage, they heard strange noises and whispers that sent shivers down their
spines. Despite the fear they felt, they didn't give up and continued advancing with
determination.
Finally, they arrived at a secret room where they found an old wooden box. Upon
opening it, they discovered a collection of ancient books, each filled with fascinating
stories and astonishing records of people from around the world.
They realized that these books were the legendary "Guinness World Records," a
compilation of the most extraordinary and amazing achievements of humanity. Each
page was brimming with tales of individuals who had accomplished unimaginable
feats, from the fastest and strongest athletes to the most talented artists and boldest
explorers.
As they read these incredible stories, the eyes of the young adventurers lit up
with excitement and wonder. For Alex and his friends, the mansion had become the
starting point of their own extraordinary adventures. With each new page they read,

Young People Making a Difference: Stories of Success.
Author: Anonymous.

There was a group of young people passionate about the environment

and nature conservation. They grew up in a small community surrounded by lush
forests and crystal-clear rivers, and they always felt a special connection to the
beauty of the nature around them.
One day, while exploring the surroundings of their community, they noticed
that some of the forests were being cut down to make way for development
projects. This filled them with sadness and concern, and they decided they must
do something to protect their natural home.
With determination, the young people joined together to form a group
called "Nature Guardians." They began researching environmental issues,
learning about the importance of conservation, and seeking ways to create
positive change in their community.
They organized awareness campaigns about the importance of reforestation
and water conservation. They collected signatures to urge local authorities to
protect the forests and rivers. They also conducted regular clean-up activities
to keep natural spaces clean and raise awareness about the importance of not
polluting the environment.
The dedication and hard work of the Nature Guardians began to bear fruit.
Their community started to become aware of the importance of preserving the
environment and rallied behind their efforts. Eventually, the local government
also recognized their efforts and began implementing stricter conservation
policies.
Over time, the initiative of the young people spread to other nearby
communities. They became an inspiring example for other young people who
also wanted to make a difference in their own environments.
In addition to their environmental impact, the Nature Guardians also
helped strengthen the sense of community in their area. The collaboration
and teamwork they demonstrated attracted more people who wanted to get
involved in environmental conservation.
91
With support from local organizations and other individuals interested in
their cause, the Nature Guardians succeeded in protecting extensive forest areas
and rivers, creating nature reserves for future generations.
The story of the Nature Guardians became a story of success that
resonated throughout the country. Their bravery and determination to make a
difference inspired both young and old to take action to protect and preserve
the environment.
Through their actions, they showed that young people can make a
significant difference in the world when they come together with passion and
determination to address important challenges like environmental protection.
Their legacy continues to inspire other young people to follow their example and
create a positive impact on society and the planet.

theme. This could include activities such as:
• Conducting research on the topic and collecting relevant data to raise
awareness in the community about its importance.
• Organizing clean-up events in parks, beaches, or local natural areas to promote
environmental cleanliness.
• Giving presentations at your school or other public places to educate people
on how they can contribute to environmental conservation.
• Engaging in tree planting or native plant activities in deforested or degraded
areas.
• Placing informative posters in strategic locations to promote the importance
of conservation and environmental care.
• Collecting signatures to support conservation initiatives in your community
and presenting them to local authorities.
