Extensions and Mi1ga1ng Circumstances
We want you to do your best in each assessment. However, we know that someWmes
events happen that are either beyond your control or not easy to predict and which mean
that you will not be able to submit your coursework by the deadline. If this happens, you can
apply for an extension to your deadline according to our regulaWons. If you need longer
than the extension window, you can apply for a deferral, which takes you to the next
assessment period. You must apply for an extension or a deferral before the assignment
deadline.
Please note that under no circumstances are module staff allowed to give unofficial
extensions.
Please note:
1. Please note that late submissions (where an extension/deferral has not been
granted) will automaWcally result in a zero mark. This will count as a failed a_empt
and may result in you failing the overall module. The maximum module mark that
can be awarded for resit a_empt is 40%.
2. Extensions will be in accordance with the University and Faculty policy. Students
MUST keep copies (electronic file) of their assignment. The electronic version of
your assignment may be used to enable checks to be made using anW-plagiarism
sodware and approved plagiarism checking websites. Any penalWes for not
complying with word limits will be in accordance with University and Faculty policy.
PLAGIARISM WARNING! – Assignments should not be copied in part or in whole
from any other source, except for any marked quotaWons, that clearly disWnguish
what has been quoted from your own work. All references used must be given, and
the specific page number used should also be given for any direct quotaWons, which
should be in inverted commas. Students found copying from the internet or other
sources will get zero mark and may be excluded from the University.
Academic Misconduct
We expect all students to act with academic integrity, which means that they will study and
produce work in an open, honest and responsible manner.
Academic misconduct covers any acWon by a student to gain unfair advantage (e.g. extra
marks) for her/himself, or for another student, in their assessed work. It not only damages
your personal reputaWon, but also the reputaWon of the enWre university, and it will not be
tolerated at Coventry University. There are severe penalWes for students who are found
guilty of academic misconduct ranging from obtaining a mark of 0% for the piece of work
concerned, through to exclusion from the University.
Many modules require you to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the work of
others (arWsts, makers, pracWWoners, academics, designers, performers, etc.). It is vital that
you make it absolutely clear when you are using work from other sources, and that you
reference it clearly and correctly.
If you are unsure how to reference, please refer to the CU APA Referencing Guide here:
h_ps://libguides.coventry.ac.uk/apa), or speak to a tutor on the module immediately.
Support for correct referencing can also be found though the Centre for Academic WriWng
(CAW).
For full details of what consWtutes academic dishonesty and how to avoid it, please see the
secWon in the Faculty Student Handbook, available on Blackboard.
