Plumbing Practical Report

NAME: AGOUNNON MATTHEW FEYINTIOLUWA

MATRIC NO: F/ND/22/3130020
DEPARTMENT: CIVIL ENGINEERING
COURSE TITLE: WATER AND WASTEWATER ENGINEERING (CEC 202)

1. Title:
Plumbing Practical – [Installation at Soil Lab]

2. Introduction:
The purpose of this practical is to understand the basic concepts of plumbing, including pipe fitting,
leak prevention, and installation of fixtures. We were tasked with demonstrating proper techniques for
connecting pipes and ensuring their tightness to prevent leakage.

3. Materials and Equipment:

Pipes (PVC, copper, etc.)
Pipe fittings (elbows, T-joints, etc.)
Wrenches
Pipe cutters
Sealants/Teflon tape
Pipe supports
Plumbing torch (if applicable)

4. Procedure:
1. Measured the length of the pipes required for the installation.
2. Cut the pipes using a pipe cutter and filed the edges smooth.
3. Assembled the fittings (elbows, joints) to the pipes and applied Teflon tape to prevent leaks.
4. Installed the pipe sections into the given setup (e.g., sink or faucet installation), ensuring proper
alignment and tightening the connections.
5. Checked all connections for leaks by testing water flow.
5. Observations:
1. The pipes were securely joined, but the joints required extra tightening to avoid small leaks.
2. The torch was used to soften the fittings for easier attachment in copper pipe setups.

6. Challenges:
The biggest challenge was ensuring that all pipe joints were tight enough to prevent leaks.
Working with different pipe materials (e.g., PVC vs. copper) required adjusting the tools and
techniques.

7. Results/Outcomes:
After the installation and testing, the connections were leak free, and the setup was functioning as
expected.
The test showed that the plumbing system was properly sealed and water flowed without issues.

8. Conclusion:
The plumbing practical successfully demonstrated how to install and connect pipes while ensuring a
leak free system. Proper use of tools and techniques, such as applying Teflon tape and ensuring correct
pipe alignment, is essential for a durable plumbing system.
