Results: The glass was examined, and I lifted four latent fingerprints, hereby called A-D.

Ivanna -
I will have an official report in 24 hours detailing the time of death and exact cause once I
perform a full autopsy. For now, I am 99.99% certain the cause of death was poison.
There were slight lacerations on the front of the victim’s neck, but these were superficial
wounds, and not the cause of death.
The preliminary toxicology analysis of the victim’s blood and residue in the glass showed to
contain a lethal concentration of Burgasovoxiside-0928H. This compound, a rare Russian chemical
warfare agent from the WWII era, was found in the residue in the glass and in the victim’s blood – so
the glass was the source of the poison. I can’t believe the victim was even able to drink that wine - it
must have tasted just awful! Well, I guess if any wine can mask the taste of an abnormal amount of
Russian biowarfare toxins, it would be cheap Chianti. It’s not my favorite - unless I have a healthy
serving of fava beans, that is, as that helps to drown the taste of cheap Chianti.
Nonetheless, this chemical is a fast-acting neurotoxin. The victim most likely died within 10
minutes after consumption. With that said, it is unfortunate this poisoning happened at the party, so
you are all suspects. I can hold off the official police investigation for about another 10 minutes, so
you guys need to figure out whodunit, or you are all going to be involved in a lengthy murder
investigation!
Sincerely,
P.S. Never alter a crime scene! You make it more difficult on the investigators!

WINE-ICTIONARY
TERM DEFINED
ACIDITY Tart or harsh sour taste - as the acidity gets higher, the stronger the tart/sour taste (Acrid
is an overly acidic wine). An excess is an undesirable characteristic
AROMA The simple fruity odor of the grape variety such as apple-y, raisin-y, fresh, floral,
woody, earthy, etc. The younger the wine, the more it shows its variety aroma. Matured
wines form into a bouquet
ASSERTIVE Forward tasting, upfront
ATTRACTIVE Light and easy to drink
BALANCED The fruit, acid and wood flavors are in the correct proportions. If a wine is unbalanced,
one of these is prevalent and may be acidic, flat or harsh
BITE A quantifiable degree of tannin or acidity. Typically only tolerated in a full-bodied wine
BITTER Not a good quality if the bitterness dominates the flavor or finish. Typically, due to
tannins, chemical salts, bacteria, etc. Bitter flavor can contribute to the balance, but an
overly bitter flavor is a fault in the wine
BODY; Perception of texture or viscosity of the wine in the mouth - light (watery), medium and
BODIED full-bodied (rich, complex)
BOUQUET Describes the complex odor of the matured wine in the bottle that is developed through
the fermentation process
BUTTERY Term for both the flavor and texture of the wine - like melted butter. This term is most
used to describe Chardonnay. This term can also be used to refer to color
CHARACTER A wine with distinctive, first-rate distinguishable qualities. As opposed to ‘dull’
CORKED; The wine has an unpleasant and moldy card-board cork odor and will taste flat - often
CORKY caused by a faulty cork
DEPTH The complexity and concentration of the flavors in a wine (opposite of shallow)
EARTHY Wine that tastes of damp, rich soil (mostly red wines). Typically used in a positive
manner by adding complexity to the aroma and flavor. When used in a negative manner,
it means the wine tastes barn-yardy and nearly dirty
FINISH The taste and texture remaining in the mouth after swallowing. A longer finish denotes
better quality
FLABBY Lacking acidity, heavy on the palate. Not a lot of flavor
FLAT Still wine: low acidity, dull flavor. Sparkling wine: has lost its effervescence
FLINTY Describes a Riesling, Chablis and Sauvignon Blancs and is characteristic of the odor of
flint striking steel. The odor comes from grapes grown in specific regions having certain
types of soil
FRUITY A term referring to the body and richness and smell of fresh fruit - i.e., apples,
blackberries, cherries, raspberries. Sometimes refers to cooked fruit
HEADY Describes a wine that has a high alcohol concentration
ROBUST Big and full bodied, intense and powerful taste and aroma with a lot of fruit in the taste.
This term is used more with red wines
SEDUCTIVE An appealing wine
SHORT A wine that does not remain on the palate after swallowing. Common in inexpensive
wine
SMOKY Subtle smoked-wood character in the flavor. Typically from the barrel fermenting/aging
or can be from the soil in certain regions
SPICY Lively, spicy flavors present in the wine such as cinnamon, mace, nutmeg, anise, mint,
pepper, cloves - often present in complex wines. This comes from either the grapes or
the barrels during the aging process
TANNIC ACID; Found in red wines and is very harsh (mouth puckering) with young wines and during
TANNIN the aging process, it will resolve into flavorful components
VELVETY Harmonious, rich and silky texture
