SACE S2X 100, S3X, 4X and 6X circuit-

breakers form the range of ACE Isomax S
currem-limiting moulded-case circuit-breake rs
for applications fro m 1 to 630 A.
The function o f a curre nt-limiting circuit-breaker
is precisely to "li mit" Lhe specific let-through
energy as much as possible in the evem of a
short circuit, protecting the circuits and
switchgear downsLream. The breaking system
ma kes it possible to inte rrupt high short-circuit
currents very rapidly. Furthermore, the special
shape of the parts makes ir possible to limit the
peak values o f the fault currents to values that
a re ignificantly lower than those of the
prospective short-circuit currents in the point of
insta llation. The high o pening speed red uces
thc e lectrodynamic stresses to which rhe circuit-
breakers downstream are exposed in the evem
of a fault. They are available in fixed, plug-in
and withdrawable versions that can be fitted
with a li the accessories ava ilable for the
co1Tesponding circuit-breakers.

Applications
These circuit-breakers are suirable for
installation in ali typcs of installations (civil,
industria l and se1v ice sector), as well as in the
on-board e lectrical systems of boats, in mines,
on oi! rigs and. ge nerally speaking, ali
installations \Vhere high transformer and
gene rator powers ca n resu lt in high short-circuit
currents of up to
200 kA at 380/ 415 V a.e. They can be used as
main switches downstream of power supplies as
well as in installations where contin uity of
service is nm an essential requirement, and
backup protection is provided, enabling circuiL-
breake rs with breaking capacities lower tha n Lhe
prospective sho rt-circuit current in the point of
insta llation to be used downstream.

Duty voltage and breaking capacity

SACE Isomax S current-limiting circuit-breake rs
conform to IEC standard 947-2. They are
characterised by a rated operating voltage Ue of
690V a.e. and a rateei limit short-circuit breaking
capacity Teu of 200 kA at 380/ 415 V a.e., 75 kA
at 690 V a.e. fo r S3X, 4X, S6X and 70 kA at 440
V for S2X 100.
Selective protectio n can a lso be provided even
Lhough the circuil-breakers have very s hort
breaking times in the evcnt of s hort-circuits.
lsolation behaviour
ln the open posiLion, Lhe circuit-breaker
guarantees i olaLion of Lhe circuir in conformiLy
wiLh !EC standard 917-2. The insularion
distances ensure there are no leakage currems
and guarantee Lhe dielectric strength againsc any
overvolrages across lhe input and outp ut.

Compact dimensions
. tandardisation of Lhe depch of che circuit-
hreakers at 70 mm for lhe 2X 100 and
103.5 mm for thc 3X, --iX and 6X,
standardisation of their heighcs and a funher
reduction in their depths compared to those of
the ACE Limitor range makes ic possible to
reduce lhe swilchhoard insl allation dimensions
and slandardisc thc suppo rt structures.

The staning, switching and protection of a
three-phase asynchronous mocor are essential
operacions for it to be used correctly. The

for prorecti ng againsl ovcrloads and phase

Switch-disconnectors
IEC 947-3.
Switching in total safety.

The switch-disconnecLors are based o n Lhe

corresponding circuit-breaker and retai n the
sarne dimensions, versions, mounting systems
and accessory options. They conform to IEC
standard 94--3. They are characterised by a
rated voltage of 690 V in alternating current ancJ
750 V in direct currenl.

Applications
They can be used as sul>-s"' itchboard main
swirches, wirch-disconnector for lines,
busbars and seu. o f switchgear oras bus-ries.
They can ai o form part of general isolating
devices for groups of machines or assemblies
for comrolling and protecLing motors.

Isolating
The main function of Lhese circuit-brca kers is to
isolate rhe circuilli in which they are insralled.
When the contacL'> open Lhey move to a
distance that prevenlli are ignirion, respecting
the prescriptions regarding isolation behaviour
specified in the standards. The position of the
operaling lever provides unequivocal indication
o f the posilion of t he contaclli (positive
operation).

Protection
Every switch-disconnector musr be
protected upsLream by a coordinated
device offering short-circuit protectio n.
The coordinaLion table alongside
indicates Lhe ACE Isomax S circuit-
breaker abk: to provide this
protection l'unction for each switch-
disconnector. All the units are the sarne
or a lower moclel than the S"" itch-
disconnector.

Making capacity
The making capacity is an importam
performance parameter in that a switch-
disconnector must 1 e able to wirhstand the
dynamic, thermal and current stresses w hich
can occur during closing withour damage, up to
shorr-circuit closing c:onditions.
