A wink signal is a momentary drop in voltage on a telephone line. This signal is something
the phone detects and perceives it as the "hang up" signal. When a conversation is over, one
person will hang up the phone on one end, a wink signal is sent which in turn hangs up the
phone on the other end. This is an automatic process.
