The Friendly Creature

Hi there! My name is Isola, I’m a little more than 1 year old, in earthling age, that is about 14
years old. I live on the planet Europa, one of the many moons of Jupiter. Before telling you
about my crazy day, I will tell you a little more about the planet I live in. Europa, as I told you, is
one of the many moons of Jupiter, 95 in total. On this planet, we have a very thin atmosphere,
so our pomonuls (the equivalent of human lungs) are adapted to it. It is a little similar to how
people who live in the mountains have larger lungs than the ones in lower areas. Under the
rocky and icy crust of our planet lies an ocean of saltwater about twice as big as the ones on
Earth. On Europa, we also have continents, but we call them etas (7 in total), and are more like
your countries.
Me, I live in a small cille(city) in Allemerndy (one of our etas) under the crust in a Europan-made
cave. This morning, like every morning, I have to go to school (we call it eclool), so I wake up at
about 5.80 marilicras and I go eat some local meat that my dad caught hunting yesterday called
the cochig, and kind of looks like your pigs. I also drink some fahger juice. While eating, a robot
is doing my hair and another one is holding a book on my favorite subject: our fauna and flora.
After this, I go take a shower and once I’m finished, I put on my new shoes, put on a hat and get
on my way to the eclool.

While on my way to the eclool, I studently hear a loud bang on the ice crust right above me, and
I see a big shadow on the ice. Looking up, I see a small really small thing falling. I catch it, and
when I pick it up, I see a creature I had never seen in any book I had ever read before. I decide
to put the Creature in a small transparent box I had in my bag. When I look around me, I see
that everyone around me is busy opening their shops or going to work, and doesn’t notice
anything of what had just happened. But right when I start to walk again, I hear loud sirens and
big vehicles with E.S.A. (Europa Space Agency) written on them. I see people in biohazard suits
come out of the trucks putting yellow stripes with “DANGER” written on them all around the
area where the sound and the shadow were.

I finally get to school and see my two best friends waiting for me at the front gate. I wave at
them from a distance and they wave back, when I get there, I tell them about what I had just
seen. We try to think about what could be going on on the crust and make some silly guesses.
The bell rings and we get to our classes. My first class of the day is my favorite one: Life Science.
Today, the teacher prepared a test and handed out the paper. I start answering the questions
one by one with ease, and finally, I get to the last question of the test. I have to make up an
animal and describe how it looks and why it looks like that. I decide to do an animal similar to
us, but looks a lot smaller, except it only has a pair of legs and can stand upright. After finishing
the test, we grade each other and after checking my friend’s (he got a 91/100), he gives mine
back. I start to look at my answers, and I see no red marks. I turn to the last page and I see a big
100! I was excited about this score, as I was feeling confident while testing. I thank my friend
and go put my test on the teacher’s table.

After some other classes, it is finally time for lunch. I join my friends and get out my food
generator from my bag. Today, I decide to choose a big piece of steak and some herbs. I start
eating and my friends start talking about the classes we had this morning. After finishing, I go
clean my food generator and get back to my classes.

This afternoon, the school had organized a Talent Show. It might sound surprising for some of
you, but I don’t really enjoy Talent Shows. I did not sign up, as I can never think of what I could
do up there on the stage. I get to one of the seats in the back, and wait for my friends to come. I
see them coming, but they do not see me, and the seats I had saved for them get taken. I am
now surrounded by some senior students who I do not know. I move my chair behind them to
hide from the teachers and lean against one of the walls. I start to fall asleep but a teacher
comes and I quickly sit upright. The teacher asks me why I am here. I tell her what happened,
and she lets me move my chair near my friend. The rest of the show isn’t as boring, as I can now
see better, and I am with my friends. Once the bell rings, I get up to get my bag and go home.

When I get home, my mom is still at work. Then, I remember that little creature I had caught
earlier this morning, and I decide to take it out for examination. I take out a small kit I had
gotten from our local holidays called Nohabrt. In this kit, I have everything needed to analyze an
animal. I take out my magnifying glass and start looking at it. I notice that the creature has
something that looks like a mask of some sort. Suddenly, I hear a small scream coming from it. I
take out my animal translator but it doesn’t recognize the language. I find it weird, as it is
supposed to learn on its own using Artificial Intelligence to find out the language. The Creature
continues to cry and I notice that one of the limbs does not look right. It is twisted at a weird
angle, and I remember that it had fallen from somewhere near the crust, probably because of
the shock from the big shadow, and got hurt when I caught it. I was still unsure of where the
animal came from. I take out a healing spray and apply it on the limb of the Creature. I notice it
looks very much like us, just really small. Kind of how I had described my imaginary animal in
science class!

I continue to look at it with the magnifying glass, and I see it looking at its repaired limb with
surprise and joy. I notice it is really easy to read its facial expressions. I try to communicate with
it but it is looking at me with a lot of fear. I calm it down and decide to try again. It looks like it
can understand my gestures, I find that surprising as I know no other animal with such an
advanced communication system to be able to communicate with other unknown species. After
looking at it for a while, I notice that it is pointing me its body, and then its mouth. I understand
that it is telling me it is hungry, so I take some snacks and break them into really small pieces for
the Creature to eat. After doing some research, I am not able to find any similar species to what
I had found. I could have discovered new spices! After the Creature finished eating, I try to
understand where it came from by using some more gestures, but it doesn’t understand.

I take out a paper and a pen to draw out my question. Once I finish, I see the creature running
around the paper, and I realize it is so small it cannot see the full drawing. I ask the Creature if I
can pick it up to show the drawing with some more gestures. Once I get its permission, I pick
the Creature up and show the drawing. The Creature then takes out a small thing out of its
pocket, and using the magnifying glass, I see the smallest pen I had ever seen! It was as thin as
my hair! Once it finishes, I see some circles and a kind of bird with fire coming out of it. It is
going towards another circle with me on it. I think about it for a while, and finally understand!
The Creature actually comes from another planet! I suddenly remember the loud sound I had
heard while going to school, and the E.S.A. clearing the area. It had fallen from the thing that
had landed on our planet, and probably fell through some cracks all the way to my hand. The
big shadow I had seen earlier was probably the big fire-bird that took the Creature to our
planet. The Creature starts to draw again, this time, I see myself with the Creature on my
shoulder going to the big fire bird, I immediately understand and I start thinking of a plan, but
soon, my mom comes home for our diner, and I quickly hide the Creature back in the
transparent box.

After finishing eating, I go back to my room pretending to do homework. I take out the Creature
and start thinking of a plan, I think about it for a while. After some deep thinking, I think I am
ready, I start drawing it out to show the Creature and make sure that it understands the
complete plan. Once everything is ready, I go ask my mom if I can go out with some friends to
play together as an excuse to go out. She allows me but tells me I need to be back before Jupiter
is up. That leaves me a little more than 3.36 marilicras (about 2 and a half hours). I take my
school bag still full, and put my small kit, and a bunch of papers in case I need to explain some
more.

Once I get out, I start looking for a crust elevator, which takes me to the crust of the planet, they
are evenly spred out around the city but I need a special pin to take it. I get to the nearest small
shop and buy a map of the neighborhood. I locate the nearest elevator and start to run towards
it. When I get there, I see two guards in front. With the whole plan in mind, I take out the box
with the Creature and draw the plan again to check if it understood. Then I point it to one of the
guards in front of the elevator. It seems like it remembers. I walk towards the guard with the
Creature on my shoulder and when I am near it, I softly bump into him. I see the Creature
jumping on the guard’s shoulder and holding on tightly. Now, all I have to do is wait for the
Creature to get the pin. A few minutes later, I hear a metallic sound and a small object rolling
toward me. I pick it up and see it is the pin needed for the elevator. The guards are looking for it
around them a little farther. I feel a small pull on my socks and see the little creature at my feet.
I pick it up and smile at it. We quickly get into the elevator while the guards are looking for the
pin, and press the top floor button. I wait for the elevator to get to the top and we finally get
there.

When the doors open, I feel a strong wind blowing in my face and the air is full of dust and
sand. I decide to put the creature back into the box to protect it. I try to see through the thick
dust storm but my eyes get full of sand and dust. I suddenly remember I have a pair of heat
vision glasses in my kit. I put them on and see a big shape in the distance and recognize the
truck’s shape from the E.S.A. around another ship, probably the fire-bird that took the Creature
here. I walk towards the truck, but I had not planned how to get around the E.S.A. I think about
the box, and the Creature, and wonder how to get the creature back to its fire-bird.

After some thinking, I have a plan. I take out some tape from my trousindecks (pencil case in
English), a pair of binoculars from the kit, and some paper to draw out my plan. I draw out what
I had in mind and show it to the Creature, after some explaining and drawings, the Creature is
ready. I cut a small piece of tape and stick the Creature to my little box. After making sure the
tape is tight and isn’t going to fall, I close the box and get ready. My plan is to get as close as
possible to the fire-bird and roll the box all the way to the fire-bird. I start to ramp as close as
possible to the fire-bird. Once close enough, I get read to throw. One single rock in the way
could deviate the box and all this would be for nothing. I slower down my respiration, and I
throw the box with as much power and precision possible. The box starts to roll, and roll, and
roll, all the way to the fire-bird, but studently, right before getting to it, the box hits a rock and
deviates all the way to the E.S.A. truck. Right when the box was about to stop, one of the people
working in the truck comes out and kicks the box toward the fire-bird and stops right in front of
it. With my binoculars, I see the creature coming out of the box and quickly getting into its fire-
bird. Soon after, the fire-bird starts to shoot fire out of its back, and lifts up into the air. When I
look at the little window, I see the creature waving at me, and I wave back, with Jupiter rising
up.

I quickly get to the elevators to go home. When I come out, I see the two guards taking a nap
and I put the pin next to them on the floor. Once home, I go to my room and look out the
window. I see a small shooting star, and I think about the little creature on its fire-bird, going
through all the dangers of space to get back to its planet and tell the story to its people.
