Quadrilaterals: BY Sidra Khatoon Neha Perween Azra Jahangir Sama Perween

The document provides an overview of quadrilaterals, defining them as polygons with four sides, vertices, and angles, with a total interior angle sum of 360 degrees. It details the properties, types (including parallelograms, kites, and trapeziums), and real-life applications of quadrilaterals. Additionally, it includes interactive questions to engage the reader's understanding of the topic.

Introduction

A Quadrilateral is a polygon with

four sides, four vertices and four
angles. A sum of all interior angles
in a quadrilateral is always 360.

In the adjacent picture all figures

have four sides, four vertices, and

four angles . Hence these all are

QUADRILATERALS

QUADRILATERALS.
PROPERTIES OF
QUADRILATERALS
Four sides, four vertices, and four angles.
A B
Sum of interior angles is always 360°

Has two diagonals that may or may not be equal

It is always a closed figure

In the adjacent figure :

It has four sides i.e. AB, BC, CD, and DA D C

And four angles also i.e. angle A, B, Cand D

It has two diagonals-AC and BD

It is a square then its each angle measure 90°.if we calculate

the sum of its interior angle then it will be 360°

Since, all its properties are proved to be a

TYPES OF QUADRILATERALS

Parallelogram

kite

Trapezium
1.Parallelogram
OPPOSITE SIDES ARE EQUAL AND PARALLEL.

OPPOSITE ANGLES ARE EQUAL.

DIAGONALS BISECT EACH OTHER.

DIAGONALS DIVIDE IT INTO TWO CONGRUENT

TRIANGLES.

CONSEQUTIVE ANGLES ARE SUPPLEMENTRY.

THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF PARALLELOGRAM.

a)SQUARE b)RECTANGLE c)RHOMBUS

A)SQUARE
ALL SIDES ARE EQUAL.

ALL ANGLES ARE 90°.

DIAGONALS ARE EQUAL AND BISECT EACH

OTHER AT RIGHT ANGLE.

DIAGONALS BISEC OPPOSITE ANGLES.

IT IS A REGULAR QUADRILATERAL.
B)RECTANGLE
OPPOSITE SIDES ARE EQUAL.

ALL ANGLES ARE 90°.

DIAGONALS ARE EQUALAND BISECT EACH

OTHER.

IT IS NOT A REGULAR POLYGON.

DIAGONALS DO NOT BISECT AT RIGHT

ANGLES.
C)RHOMBUS

ALL SIDES ARE EQUAL.

OPPOSITE ANGLES ARE EQUAL.

DIAGONALS BISECT EACH OTHER AT

RIGHT ANGLE.

OPPOSITE SIDES ARE PARALLEL.

IT IS NOT A REGULAR PORYGON(UNLESS

IT IS A SQUARE)
2.KITE
TWO PAIRS OF ADJACENT SIDES ARE

EQUAL.

ONE PAIR OF OPPOSITE SIDES ARE

EQUAL.

DIAGONALS INTERSECT AT RIGHT ANGLE.

DIAGONALS ARE PERPENDICULAR.

KITE IS AN IRREGULAR QUADRILATERAL.

3.TRAPEZIUM

ONLY ONE PAIR OF OPPOSITE SIDE IS

PARALLEL.

NON PARALLEL SIDES ARE CALLED LEGS.

IT IS AN IRREGULAR TRAPEZIUM.

IT HAS THREE TYPES

A)ISOSCELES TRAPEZIUM

B)RIGHT-ANGLED TRAPEZIUM

C)SCALENE TRAPEZIUM
ANGLE SUM PROPERTY

THE SUM OF ALL INTERIOR

ANGLES IN ANY QUADRILATERAL
IS ALWAYS 360°.
REAL-LIFE APPLICATIONS OF QUADRILATERALS
Window Pane-Usually designed in rectangular or square shapes.

Chessboards-A grid of 64 small squares, all quadrilaterals.

Table tops-Commonly rectangular or square.

Bricks and Tiles-Typically rectangular for easy stacking.

Screens-Almost always rectangular.

Road signs-Many traffic signs are in quadrilateral shapes of easy visibility.

Architecture-Buildings and rooms are often designed with quadrilateral floors and walls.
INTERACT IVE QUESTIONS

1. WHAT IS THE ANGLE SUM OF A

QUADRILATERALS?

2. WHICH QUADRILATERAL HAS ONLY ONE

PAIRS OF PARALLEL SIDES?
