Line Manager Senior Corporate Communications Manager

Corporate Development includes five business areas; Business


Insight, Corporate Communications, Executive Support,
Information Management and a Portfolio Programme
Management Office. Whilst each of the services within Corporate
Development are unique, they come together to identify and
deliver each organisation’s priorities, the aim of which is to ensure
the provision of one unified professional service to NYP.

As Corporate Communications Officer:

- Support the development and enhancement of the reputation


of NYP in the interests of public trust and confidence.

- Develop and implement communications plans encompassing


media relations, public engagement and campaigns, social
Scope media, digital communications and internal communications
which deliver force objectives.

- Support the alignment of our communications with the


strategic direction of the force.

- Advise and support operational policing on the development


of effective and timely communications to prevent and detect
crime and promote public safety, including in crisis situations.

- Promote transparency and legitimacy through the information


that is provided to the public and by providing answers to
media questions about the service.

- Provide an efficient communications service to NYP as a whole


seeking and applying opportunities to share workforce
messages and bringing creativity and technical expertise to
every project.

- Responsible for delivering effective communications products


and campaigns that deliver operational and corporate
objectives.

Working Patterns
Standard Office Hours

Security vetting procedures for the post MV (SC on a case-by-case


basis)

Medical clearance procedures for the post (standard)

The post occasionally involves work outside normal working hours


and working in different locations
Special Conditions
Need to attend external meetings/conferences/workshops as
required

Requirement to be on call / standby

The post holder is required to participate in an on-call system to


provide 24-hour cover

Develop and deliver the public-facing communications issued by


North Yorkshire Police, including:

- supporting identification and delivery of proactive media


opportunities and responding to media enquiries in line
with media law.

- effectively networking across the force to create and


publish content often under tight time constraints.

Main Responsibilities : - researching and developing content for external


engagement in line with community requirements and
organisational priorities; issued via the most appropriate
channel for the audience (evidence-based).

Provide on-call Corporate Communications cover for NYP. This


involves being on-call to the Control Rooms and senior officers out-
of-hours, to provide strategic advice and support, often in
complex, developing or ambiguous circumstances including major
incidents and emergencies to mitigate risk to the public, staff and
organisations.
Support the development and delivery of multi-channel
communications plans in support of one (or more) of NYP strategic
priorities.

Deliver commissioned projects using creative and technical skills


and applying the appropriate brand guidelines. Commissions may
cover internal or external communication products, change
programmes, media relations, social media campaigns, videos,
printed materials, etc.

Support and deliver training to officers and staff who have


communications as a core responsibility to ensure that have
relevant skills and capability to perform their role.

Play an active role in the ongoing development of the corporate


communications content for internal and external use including
being responsibility for developing and issuing content on our
business-as-usual communications channels.

Manage the use of communications channels, providing quality


content and evaluation for NYP to enhance and develop employee
and public engagement, and public confidence.

Provide evaluation reports and admin support to the Corporate


Communications team as required.

Have a thorough understanding of the needs and requirements of


NYP to identify opportunities for collaboration in the development
of public and internal communications.

This role description indicates the key responsibilities of the post


and does not restrict the post holder from performing other duties
commensurate with the grade of post.
Essential

- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or have


equivalent professional communications experience or
qualifications.
- Capable of working independently under extreme pressure
against tight deadlines and with competing priorities. You are
Essential Skills, confident in taking the initiative and applying best judgement
Experience and to provide advice and resolve competing issues.
Qualifications : - Competent in Adobe and Microsoft packages and have strong
writing skills.
- Able to tackle difficult and complex subjects to develop clear,
concise engaging and effective content appropriate to the
audience and channel.
- Confident in developing trusting relationships as the basis for
providing professional advice to stakeholders.
Desirable

- Competency in the use of design, video, photography and


writing of high-quality content.
- Demonstrable experience in design, corporate
communications, public relations, journalism or marketing
field.
- Prepared to work unsociable hours to fulfil the requirements
of the role when responding to operational requirements.
