Walter Payton was born in 1954 in Mississippi and went to Jefferson High School where he played drums and sang in the choir. He had a successful football career at Jackson State University and went on to play professionally for the Chicago Bears, holding numerous NFL rushing records. After his football career, Payton explored business opportunities and started charities to help children in Chicago. He died in 1999 from a rare liver disease.

According to Wikipedia Walter Payton and Biography of Walter Payton , Walter Payton was born on July 25, 1954 in Columbia, Mississippi. . His parents were Edward and Alyne Payton. He had only one older brother named Eddie
Payton. He is of course, African American. Walter Payton went to high school at John J. Jefferson High School, Payton played drums in the marching band, participated in the track team and sang in the school choir.[4][5] Outside of school, he played drums in jazz-rock groups. He pursued his collegiate career at the historically African-American, Jackson State University. Walter Payton did not have any former jobs before he became a professional football player. Walter Payton was one of the best running backs of his time. After leaving the team, Payton explored business opportunities, including real estate, restaurants, and race cars. Living up to his nickname, Payton spent much of his time working make life better for other people. He formed the Halas Payton Foundation in 1988 to help inner-city kids in the Chicago area. He later established the Walter Payton Foundation, also dedicated to helping young people in the state of Illinois. He died in 1999 from rare liver disease primary sclerosing cholangitis on November 1. He acquired the nickname "Sweetness" in college. playing style. Payton married Connie Norwood in 1976. During his rookie years he resided in a home on the north side of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
