Dos and Don’ts – Ethical Firefly Watching

We are committed to responsible and ethical

wildlife experiences. Fireflies are delicate
creatures, and their habitat must be respected.

DOs
Stay on designated trails to avoid stepping on
vegetation or firefly larvae.
Maintain silence to avoid disturbing their
natural behaviour.
Use dim red lights or cover your torch with red
cellophane (fireflies are sensitive to
white/blue light).
Observe from a respectful distance. Do not
venture too close to the fireflies.
Listen to the guides and naturalists—they're
here to help you connect meaningfully with
nature.
Carry reusable bottles and eco-friendly
essentials. Leave no trace.
Dos and Don’ts – Ethical Firefly Watching

DON’Ts
Do not use flashlights, mobile flashes, or
camera flashlights. It disorients the fireflies.
Do not try to catch, touch, or disturb fireflies.
They are extremely fragile.
Do not play music or talk loudly.
Do not wear strong perfumes or deodorants.
They interfere with insect behaviour.
Do not litter—this is their home.
Do not smoke or consume alcohol
Do not walk into tall grass, dense vegetation,
or off-trail areas in search of "better views."
Do not trample over leaf litter or undergrowth
— these are breeding grounds for many
insects including fireflies.
Do not ignore instructions from the team
leaders or naturalists. They're trained to
ensure both your safety and the well-being of
the habitat.
