The distance between two longitudes is maximum at the


Equator because the Earth’s shape is spherical, and the
circumference is largest at the Equator.

 Time zones

 World is divided into 24 Time zones.


 France has 13 (or 12) Time zones. The number depends
on whether we count disputed territory or not.
 Russia has 11 and India has one time zone.
 Standard Time zone of India passes through 82.5E and it
passes through states of UP, MP, Andhrapradesh,
Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

 Tropic of cancer & Standard meridian meets each other


at “Surajpur” district of Chhattisgarh.
 Ghamapur (near Mirzapur) ,Uttarpradesh is often
called as “Greenwich” of India.
 Standard meridian passes through Mirzapur in Uttar
Pradesh.
 National Physics laboratory Delhi is responsible to look
after “Standard Time” of India.
 24N is the parallel that passes through maximum
states of India(10)
 Length of Day & Night is function of “Latitudes”.

International Date Line

 It is an imaginary line.
 It is not completely straight line (Zigzag).
 It passes mainly through water bodies like “Pacific
ocean” and Bering strait
 It divides continent of Asia and North America.

When we travel from west to east, you gain a day (Subtract a


day) while when you travel from East to west you lose a day
(Add a day).so it is to be noted that date changes when we
cross International Date line.(Refer to class video for
understanding this concept)
