IGNATIA AMARA
IGNATIA AMARA1
DR. VASSILIS GHEGUS 2
ESSENCE
IGNATIA is a common remedy. In acute specific situations,
everybody can become IGNATIA (e.g.: after a sudden,
unexpected, strong grief).
In acute situations, you will find for every 15 female
IGNATIA 5 or 6 male IGNATIA. Constitutionally, you will find
only 2 male IGNATIA for 15 female IGNATIA
THE CENTRAL IDEA OF IGNATIA IS:
ROMANTICISM AND ABILITY
This results in an ideal combination. They have strong
romantic ideas and feelings about how the world, society,
marriage, education, relationships, business etc. should be. On
the other hand, they have strong abilities, they can work very

NOSODES IN HOMEOTHERAPEUTICS
THE NOSODES IN
HOMOEOTHERAPEUTICS
Benjamin Goldberg, M.D.
It may be aptly said of the nosodes that they have the
unusual distinction of being the most abused, unused and
misused of all the remedies in the homoeopathic materia
medica. Some physicians use them rarely or not at all.
Whether one practices Homoeopathy or Isopathy by
employing these remedies is beside the point; for all practical
purposes they are one and the same thing.
This paper will concern itself with a short history of the
various nosodes, their early use by homoeopaths and their
relationship to the modern use of vaccines, sera and other
similar measures used in general therapeutics and
prophylaxis.
This very interesting and very useful class of remedies is
defined by Dewey as “a morbid product of disease, when
employed as remedies.” The word “nosode” comes from the
Greek word “nosos,” which means disease. Some insist that
the nosodes be prescribed on definite indication only, like any
other remedy, regardless of pathology, etiology or
circumstances. Others plead that they have a definite field of
usefulness in prophylaxis, as can be seen in some case reports
of the old prescribers. H. C. Allen in his Keynotes says of

INTRODUCTION
Folliculinum is made from Oestrone, a synthetic form of
oestrogen 4 . The source we are using today comes from Dr
Donald Foubister (1). Although there have been no organised
provings in the traditional method, millions of women have
been proving it since the discovery of synthetic hormones in
the 1940s. Dr Léa De Mattos has done exhaustive clinical
studies on the remedy, and has published her work in French
(2). You can also find a good picture in Julian’s Materia
Medica (3). Much of what I will be relating here, however,
comes from my own experience with the remedy, especially

SOME EMERGENCIS OF GENERAL PRACTICE
SOME EMERGENCIES OF
GENERAL PRACTICE
DM Borland
(Reproduced from The British Homoeopathic journal, March 1946)
It would seem that for most of us life comes in phases. For
our generation there was the period before the First World
War, then the phase of the war, followed by the period
between the wars, and then the phase of the Second World
War. These are common to all, but there are also phases
peculiar to each of us.
I am now looking back over the period when I was actively
engaged in the work of the Hospital and the teaching carried
on there. Thinking of my early days and the difficulties then
confronting me I wondered if in any way I could help those
starting out on the same road. As a result, I am tempted to offer
you this paper on some of the emergencies confronting the
beginner in homoeopathic general practice. I think
emergencies are one of one's greatest difficulties when
beginning to practice Homoeopathy.
In an acute emergency one has to do something
immediately; we cannot spend time hunting for a drug. All
these emergency cases fall roughly into two main groups - the

1. ACUTE CARDIAC FAILURE
Chapter 1
Acute Cardiac Failure
For the acute cardiac failures I think you will find that
most of your cases require one of four drugs: Arsenic,
Antimonium tart., Carbo veg., and Oxalic acid.
There are various points about these individual drugs
which help you in your selection, and you will find that very
soon you begin to select your drug almost as quickly as you
spot your pathological condition, and by the time you have
overhauled your patient you know what to give.
In the Arsenic case you have the typical Arsenic mental
distress, with extreme fear, extreme anxiety, mental and
physical restlessness, and with a constant thirst, a desire for
small sips of ice-cold water.
So far as the actual local symptoms are concerned the main
complaint is of a feeling of extreme cardiac pressure, a
sensation of great weight on, or constriction of, the chest, as if
the patient cannot get enough breath in, and a fear that he is
just going to die.
The patients as a rule are cold, they feel cold, but they may
complain of some burning pain in the chest.

AN EXPERIENCE WITH CYCLAMEN
AN EXPERIENCE WITH
CYCLAMEN
Dr. L.M. Khan
Miss L. C. aged 17 years with severe paroxysmal
headache for 7 years consulted me in the early years of my
practice. She was earlier treated with every type of treatment
but with no fruitful result. This was an important case for me
to make my career. 1 devoted time and attention to take her
history. I got a concomitant symptom as a clue for a
prescription. She had a peculiar ocular illusion constantly
associated with the headache she saw countless stars
whenever the headache appeared. On this symptom, I gave her
Cyclamen with a good result.
HC Allen says in his Keynotes−
Headache in anemic patients, with flickering
before eyes or dim vision, on rising in morning.
Flickering before eyes, fiery sparks, as of
various colors, glittering needles, dim vision of fog
or smoke.
This medicine was proved by Hahnemann & his
associates. Though this symptom is a concomitant I choose
this for prescribing. I got many more opportunities to
prescribe Cyclamen for other ailments like stomach trouble,
in severe colic either renal or gall bladder. It works magically.
