Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

Road Engineering – 4-Storey Classroom Block Access Road

1. Planning & Design


 1.1 Conduct site survey and topographical analysis
 1.2 Perform geotechnical investigation
 1.3 Develop preliminary and detailed road design
 1.4 Review design compliance with local road standards
 1.5 Obtain necessary permits and approvals
 1.6 Prepare construction drawings and BOQs

2. Site Preparation
 2.1 Clear and grub site (removal of vegetation, structures)
 2.2 Relocate existing utilities (if applicable)
 2.3 Set out alignment and road levels
 2.4 Install erosion and sediment control measures

3. Earthworks
 3.1 Excavate and cut to required formation level
 3.2 Fill and compact to subgrade specification
 3.3 Dispose of unsuitable materials off-site
 3.4 Verify compaction and grading through tests

4. Road Foundation & Sub-base


 4.1 Supply and lay selected subgrade material (if needed)
 4.2 Place and compact sub-base layer
 4.3 Perform quality control tests (CBR, density, etc.)

5. Pavement Construction
 5.1 Lay base course (crushed stone or bitumen-treated material)
 5.2 Construct asphaltic concrete or surface dressing
 5.3 Allow curing and ensure compaction quality
 5.4 Mark road surfaces and install reflectors (if needed)

6. Drainage Works
 6.1 Excavate and construct side drains
 6.2 Install culverts or pipe crossings
 6.3 Line ditches with concrete or stone pitching
 6.4 Provide stormwater outlets and erosion control
7. Road Furniture & Safety Features
 7.1 Install kerbs and road edge restraints
 7.2 Provide signage (directional, speed, warnings)
 7.3 Paint road markings and pedestrian crossings
 7.4 Install bollards, guardrails, or speed humps (if required)

8. Quality Assurance & Control


 8.1 Conduct field and laboratory tests

9. Environmental & Waste Management
