An Overview of the Timetable

The following points are important to note in respect to the enclosed timetable:
1. ʿEshāʾ Ṣalāh
▪ Generally, the beginning time written for ʿEshāʾ Ṣalāh is according to the disappearance of al-Shafaq al-Aḥmar (red
twilight) at 15 degrees solar depression.
▪ See the table below for a more detailed breakdown of the beginning times written in this timetable for ʿEshāʾ Ṣalāh,

Dates Notes
ʿEshāʾ time occurs and is written according to 15 degrees (disappearance of al-Shafaq
7 September to 1 April
al-Aḥmar).

2 April to 25 May & ʿEshāʾ time occurs. However, the times written are before 15 degrees, due to Ḥaraj 1.
16 July to 6 September ʿEshāʾ must be performed as per the times written in the timetable and not before.

ʿEshāʾ time does not occur during these days as the sun does not go 15 degrees below
the horizon. Hence, the beginning time for ʿEshāʾ has not been written during these

dates. During this period, females are also advised to perform their ʿEshāʾ according to
the Jamāʿah times printed.

2. Ṣubḥ Ṣādiq2

▪ The beginning time written for Ṣubḥ Ṣādiq is according to 18 degrees solar depression.
▪ See the table below for a more detailed breakdown of the times written for Ṣubḥ Ṣādiq according to the different
periods of the year.

1 August to 12 May The time is written according to 18 degrees.

The sun does not go 18 degrees below the horizon, hence Ṣubḥ Ṣādiq time is based on
13 May to 31 July
ʾAqrab al-ʾAyyām 3 during these dates.

3. Other Notes:
Perform Fajr 5 minutes after Ṣubḥ Ṣādiq time. Do not perform any Ṣalah in the 10 minutes before Ẓuhr
Consume Ifṭār according to Maghrib (not sunset) time. beginning time.
Do not perform any Ṣalah for 12 minutes from sunrise time. Perform ʿAṣr atleast 15 minutes before sunset time.

1 An Arabic term meaning hardship. As ʿEshāʾ time becomes increasingly late, ultimately causing hardship for the Ummah (i.e. the time gap between
Maghrib and ʿEshāʾ becomes increasingly long), the time for ʿEshāʾ Ṣalāh is written before the actual 15 degree time. There are varying opinions as to when
Ḥaraj occurs. In this timetable, Ḥaraj has been determined at 9.30 pm, after consulting various scholars and according to the unanimous decision of the
Preston Masjids (Dec 2018).
2 An Arabic Term meaning True Dawn. This is the time for ending Suḥūr. This is also the Fajr beginning time.
3 An Arabic term meaning the nearest day. As there is no solar depression of 18 degrees for Ṣubḥ Ṣādiq during this period, Ṣubḥ Ṣādiq time is based on the
