1. Area Classification (Zone)
2. Gas Classification (Group) The characteristics of the gas or vapour involved in relation
to the ignition or energy and safe gap data
3. Temperature Classification- The ignition temperature of the gas or vapour involved or
lowest value of the ignition temperature, if more than one combustible material is present.
4. Environmental conditions In which apparatus is to be installed. The selected electrical
apparatus shall be adequately protected against corrosive and solvent agencies water
ingress, thermal and mechanical stresses as determined by the environmental condition
5. Dust Classification (Group) The characteristics of dust involved.
d. All Electrical equipment installed in hazardous area shall be selected as per IS -5571 & IEC
61241 and shall meet the requirement of relevant IS and statutory regulations.
e. Electrical Equipment for dust risk areas shall comply with IEC 61241-10 and IS 14154-1, IS
14154-2 and IS 15142
f. As additional safety feature, the following requirement for electrical equipment shall also be
followed:

C. Instrumentation to be flameproof type or hermitically sealed.
D. AC plant room motors with type E
E. Lighting in AC plant room suitable for zone-2 area.
4. Compressor sheds in hazardous area shall be designed to allow adequate ventilation to allow
area classification as zone 2, EOT crane in the shed shall be flameproof type. All other electrical
equipment shall be suitable for zone-1 or zone-2 area depending on extent of hazard.
5. Motors fed from variable frequency drive in hazardous area application shall be type tested as
unit with VFD panel. Motors for VFD application shall be provided with thermister / RTD.
6. All electrical equipment in the Analyzer room shall be flameproof type suitable for Gas group
IIA, IIB, IIC irrespective of the area classification.
4.0 POWER SYSTEM DESIGN
The distribution system shall be designed in accordance with this job specification, taking into
account all possible factors affecting the choice of the system to be adopted, such as required
continuity of supply, flexibility of operation, Operational costs, reliability of supply from available
power sources, total load and the concentration of individual loads.
4.1 Voltage and frequency variation.
The following maximum variations shall be considered for equipment
A. AC System
Voltage : ±10%
Frequency : ±3 %
Variations in supply waveforms. (Harmonics). : XX
Power factor : XX
Note: XX values will be specified in detail engineering.
B. DC System (at system output terminals)
Electrical Control, Critical Lighting etc. : ±10%
Instrumentation Power Supplies : ±10 %
4.2 A Primary distribution voltage : 33kV, 50Hz
B HV motor voltage : 6.6kV for above 132 kW
