FOREWORD
(Formal clause will be added later)
The general requirements for wooden tool handles are covered by IS 620 ‘Wooden tool
handles, general requirements’. A series of Indian Standards have been prepared for
various hand tools, and for use with these hand tools, a series of Indian Standards for the
corresponding wooden handles have been prepared and are being regularly revised. This
standard deals with the wooden handles for hand hammers conforming to IS 841
‘Specification for steel hammers’.
This standard was first published in 1968 and subsequently revised in 1973 and 1989. In
this revision, following modifications have been incorporated;
1) Sampling and criteria for conformity has been modified.
2) Marking clause has been updated,
3) BIS certification marking clause has been added; and
4) Cross-reference of the standards have been updated.
The standard contributes to the Sustainable Development Goal 9 – Industry, innovation
and infrastructure: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable
industrialization and foster innovation.
For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied
with the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis
shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 2022 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical
values ( second revision )’. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off
value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
