Mini Lesson 043 - Expressing Preferences with 'Prefer' and 'Would Rather'
Explanation:
When talking about preferences, we use "prefer" and "would rather" to indicate
choices. Both are used to express likes and dislikes, but they differ in usage.
1. Prefer:
- Used to express a general preference between two or more things.
- Form: *prefer* + noun/verb-ing + to + noun/verb-ing.
- Example: *I prefer tea to coffee.* / *I prefer swimming to running.*
2. Would Rather:
- Used to express a specific preference in a particular situation. It’s often used to
compare immediate choices.
- Form: *would rather* + base verb (without "to") + than + base verb.
- Example: *I would rather stay at home than go out.*
Key Differences:
- Use prefer when talking about general preferences.
- Use would rather for specific, immediate choices.
