Assignment Topic: Reflection on Group Activity

Date : April 29, 2025.

Submit a reflection on a group activity where you practiced verbal communication skills.
Highlight how you conveyed information clearly and effectively, and reflect on areas where
youcan improve your verbal communication in academic or clinical settings.

 Overview
In a recent class activity designed to enhance and assess our verbal communication skills, I
collaborated with three of my classmates;Student A, Student B, and Student C on delivering
short, individual presentations focused on different social issues. Each of us was given
approximately 3 to 4 minutes to prepare and speak on our assigned topics in front of the class.

Student A presented on child labor. Student B focused on psychosocial disorders. Student C

explored the role of social media in modern society. My topic was poverty.

Student A: Child Labor."Student A spoke about child labor and how it affects millions of children
worldwide. Many are forced to work in unsafe conditions, missing out on education and a
proper childhood. We need stronger laws and more awareness to protect these children."

Student B: Psychosocial Disorders."Student B's topic was psychosocial disorders like anxiety and
depression. These affect how people think, feel, and interact with others. Early support and
reducing stigma are key to helping those affected live better lives."

Student C: Role of Social Media."Student C discussed how social media influences our lives
today. While it helps us connect and share ideas, it can also spread misinformation and impact
mental health. We should use it responsibly and be aware of its effects."

My topic was poverty. I discussed poverty with great depth. My experience of speaking on the
stage is described.

 Feelings

At the start, I felt a mixture of anxiety and self-doubt about speaking in front of the class.
However, as I began preparing my speech and organizing my points, I gradually felt more
confident. The classroom environment was respectful and encouraging. When it was finally my
turn to speak, I felt a surge of adrenaline but also a sense of determination to do my best. By
the time I was halfway through my talk, I felt more in control and began to enjoy.
 Evaluation

Looking back on the session, I believe the activity was not only informative but also quite
engaging. Each student brought a unique perspective and presentation style to the table. I felt
that I managed to present my ideas clearly and logically. However, I noticed that I sometimes
spoke too quickly and this needs to be changed.

Among the presentations, I thought Student A stood out the most, as their content was well-
organized, and they used examples effectively to support their points.

 Analysis
This activity underscored the critical role of structure, clarity, and audience engagement in
effective communication. Using relatable examples and avoiding overly technical language
made the complex topic of poverty more digestible for my audience. However, I also became
aware of some personal areas that need improveme. This experience helped me realize how
important it is to develop these skills early.

 Action Plan

To further improve my verbal communication skills especially in preparation for clinical practice
and professional settings, I intend to:

 Regularly practice speaking in front of a mirror or recording myself to monitor and

adjust my pacing.
 Engage in group discussions and case presentations to get more comfortable speaking
on the spot.
 Seek feedback from peers and mentors after each presentation to continuously refine
my skills.

By consistently applying these strategies, I hope to become a more confident, articulate, and
empathetic communicator—qualities that are essential not only for academic excellence but
also for building trust and understanding in patient care.
